I have determined the essential question to ask on a first date, and it is not “Where did you grow up?” or “What’s your favorite movie?” Let’s bypass the mundane chitchat for the one thing I need to know if we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together: “What is your preferred French fry dipping sauce?” Correct answer: Avocado Feta Dip.
I’ll also accept honey mustard, malt vinegar, BBQ sauce, ranch dressing, tartar sauce, or a Wendy’s Frosty. Or you can say ketchup. I’m open-minded like that. But for today, my holy grail, crave-it-like-crazy, creamy-dreamy French fry dip of the gods is chunky, feta-filled Avocado Dip.
Tomorrow is National French Fry Day (yes another American food holiday! Remember that Apple Butter, Cheddar, and Turkey Grilled Cheese back in April? I love this country), so pick your favorite fry-sauce combo, and let’s dunk with gusto.
French fries are as suited to a fancy bistro (the truffle fry) as they are to a roadside food shack (the double-fried fry). Whether you’re all about the skinny-minnie matchstick fry, the super chunky steak fry, the quirky curly fry, or the wacked-out waffle fry, National French Fry Day has something to offer. I’ll be making merry with a jumbo plate of spicy sweet potato fries and a party-sized bowl of Avocado Dip. Come over. I’ll share.
Avocado Dip is cool, creamy, and loaded with feta cheese. Greek yogurt adds richness and smoked paprika teases with subtle spice. We are in double dipping territory. Avocado Dip is meant to be shared amongst the closest of friends and the least of germaphobes. Avocado Dip will love your tortilla chips, your carrot sticks, your pita crisps, and it will really, really love your fries.
Spicy Sweet Potato Fries with Chipotle Seasoning with Avocado Dip are my latest afternoon snack, dinner side, and midnight munchie addiction. Though fries typically conjure images of something I shouldn’t be eating three times a day without some measure of residual guilt, these crunchy, spicy, and indulgent-tasting fries are actually oven baked. I have a mini fixation with creating dishes that taste deep-fried but aren’t (see: Ultra Crispy Unfried Tofu), both for the health-factor and the “I don’t want my apartment smelling like a KFC for three weeks” factor. These baked fries from Alexia Foods nailed it.
Lucky lady that I am, Alexia sent me a few samples of their French fries to try and ohmygoodess. If I hadn’t popped these babies into the oven myself, I would have willingly bet my last bar of chocolate that they had been deep-fried. Both the Spicy Sweet Potato Fries with Chipotle Seasoning and the Organic Yukon Gold Select Fries baked up perfectly crispy, tasted fresh, and were ready in same amount of time it took me to whip up my easy Avocado Dip. Goodbye tedious potato peeling, botched potato chopping, and disastrous cornstarch dredging (along with the other odd theories I’ve tried to create a “fried” texture in the oven.) Hello French fry fabulous!
Cool Avocado Dip pairs perfectly with Alexia’s Spicy Sweet Potato Fries with Chipotle Seasoning and is exactly what I’ll be eating to celebrate National French Fry Day. Celebrate with me! In honor of this savory holiday, I’m teaming up with Alexia for a National French Fry Day Giveaway. One lucky winner will receive:
- One Alexia branded tote bag
- One apron
- One kitchen timer
- One coupon for a free bag of Alexia product
**Giveaway ended. Congrats to the winner and thank you to all who entered!**
Whether your ideal French fry is crinkly or straight, thick or thin, Yukon Gold or sweet potato, treat yourself to your favorite spud for National French Fry Day. Pull up a big bowl of creamy feta Avocado Dip, and don’t be shy about double dipping. Your fries, your taste buds, and maybe even your date will thank you.
And if your date doesn’t appreciate your double-dunk, you just called dibs on the rest of the Avocado Dip. Score!
Avocado Feta Dip
Ingredients
- 1 ripe avocado peeled, pitted, and cut in 1/2-inch chunks
- 4 ounces feta cheese loosely crumbled but still chunky (about 3/4 cup)
- 1/4 cup plain non-fat Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Baked sweet potato fries for serving
- Sliced carrots, celery, pita chips, or tortilla chips, for serving
Instructions
- Place avocados, feta, Greek yogurt, lime juice, smoked paprika, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper in a large mixing bowl. Stir and lightly mash with a spoon to combine, leaving avocado and feta slightly chunky.
- Serve with baked spicy sweet potato fries, veggies, and chips as desired.

My personal favorite is ranch but this avocado dip looks so yummy I’ll definitely have to try it. And there’s not a better French fry than Alexis sweet potato fries! Hope we make it to a second date!
I’ve liked Alexia on FB.
I’ve liked TLSW on FB.
Heinz is based in pa so I have to say I am in favor of either ketchup or mustard… Probably mustard and if it is honey mustard all the better. (Ask Tim sometime about one of our first dates at Steak ‘n Shake where I ruined the fries.)
this one sounds and looks really tempting!
Thanks so much! Happy National French Fry Day :)
Honey mustard is my favorite dipping sauce for sweet potato fries.
I love honey mustard too Deb! It’s my go to with sweet potato fries whenever I’m out. Thanks so much for entering and Happy National French Fry Day!
Chicken gravy. Only for regular fries. I usually don’t dip sweet potato fries. I have all the ingredients in my house right now so I’m totally trying the avocado dip on sweet potato fries.
Patti, chicken gravy with fries sounds like the ultimate comfort food! So excited that you’re trying the dip. Hope you love it!
And I’m a fan of yours on facebook.
So awesome!
Thanks lady!
Ranch! And McDonald’s vanilla ice cream :)
YES to the fries in the ice cream. Virtual high five on that one. Thanks for entering!!
i love to mix mayo and ketchup together and eat my fries – did our date get really weird? sorry, its not you, its me :P
This comment totally cracked me up! Mango and ketchup sounds crazy cool. Love it!
It’s like Greek guacamole! Love it! I’m addicted to these sweet potato fries so I’ll definitely be making this dip to accompany them next time! Looks so yummy!
Thank you so much Maegan! Sweet potato fries are my weakness too.
Classic dip with a twist: ketchup with lots of added black pepper – YUM! (And french fries just so happen to be my favorite food. period.)
Ooooooh nice! Thanks so much Rachel. And this first date isn’t weird at all ;-)

I’d usually say honey mustard, but avocado dip?? Um, duh! {And my awkward first date questions include “do you like animals” and “are you a picky eater”…I don’t give a rip where you grew up, so long as you’ll eat my cooking and put up with my cats. haha}

Avocado dip sounds like, um… the best thing EVER! I love.
Why thank ya darlin’! My latest cooking motto: when in doubt, add avocado.
I love malt vinegar and tartar sauce on my fries, even if I’m not having fish and chips
Malt vinegar is one of my all-time faves Sandy. I’ll ask for it anywhere we go, even when no fish and chips are involved!

French fries are my weakness!! These look so good. And I love the dip!
Thanks Cassie! And fries + dip get me every time!
I love that you added feta and Greek yogurt to this delicious dip! What an awesome idea for jazzing up fries, too!
Thanks so much Georgia! (And I’ll put Greek yogurt or avocado in just about anything…this dip was my destiny;-) ) Have a great weekend!
I love using honey mustard with sweet potato fries, but I also like using sweet and sour sauce too! Yeah, I know….totally weird! And I think it’s because I like the sauce more than the fry, hah!
Chelsea, I think that sweet/sour sauce sounds awesome. I’m totally going to try that on my fries next chance I get!
my favorite fry sauce is mayo & ketchup mixed… but this avocado sauce just might beat it out :)
It’s like you are mixing up your own sauce cocktail! Love it. Thanks Sarah!

Fav FF dipping sauce depends on the fries. For regular fries, I like spicy ketchup (hot sauce and ketchup mixed together). For sweet potato fries, I like something w/sweet undertones, like wasabi.
Wasabi??? That sounds SO GOOD on sweet potato fries. Love it Lisa!

I love Alexia fries; the waffle-cut sweet potato fries are fantastic. Ketchup is a tried-and-true classic, but sometimes I also add a dollop of dijon mustard to my plate and dip indiscriminately in both or either. :) I can’t wait to try your avocado dip!
Jenn, when it comes to condiments, I’m all about offering myself a selection. I haven’t tried the sweet potato waffle fries yet, but I can already hear them calling my name. Come over and let’s demolish a bag!
Beautiful dip !
I think my favorite dip for french fries is red wine mayonaise, it tastes so good !
Whoah, I need to find out what that is! Sounds incredible. Thanks for entering!
I like mixing mayo and ketchup (both homemade) with a hint of sriracha (also homemade :) )
You are so fancy! Homemade sriracha, ketchup, and mayo? You are the condiment queen!

My favorite french fry dipping sauce is Arby’s sauce – I know its fast food, but the curly fry/Arby’s sauce combo is so good!
Seriously, what do they put in that sauce! It’s so secret and sooooo good.
I just like ketchup for dipping sweet potato fries. :)
So classic. Thanks for entering!

My favorite is Siracha mayo. It’s so delicious! For those who like garlic- I LOVE the Siracha garlic chili paste mixed with mayo! The tangy, sweetness of mayo with the spicy and bold flavor is the perfect combination!!!
Basically, that (and you) are awesome.
Ketchup mixed with spicy brown mustard for me!
Oooo interesting combo Kammie! Thanks for entering!
I don’t eat FF, but on the rare occasion that my family does, I can hardly resist sampling a few. When I do, I go naked then top a couple with ketchup. no dipping… a squeezing of ketchup… This is how I maintain that I don’t eat FF.
Sounds like a good strategy to me! Thanks Paula.
For years I thought I hated ketchup, but I randomly tried a little bit about two weeks ago. It turns out I love it! I can’t get enough fries and ketchup ever since that life changing moment.
Alisha, confession: I STILL don’t like ketchup, but I try it all the time, just to be sure. Maybe I’ll have a moment like yours someday! Congrats :)

**NOT A CONTEST ENTRY** Because I won last time; and that would just be rude and selfish.
Just a note to say that this recipe is great. I have a lot of avocados around here (this is Southern California after all) and I can make this again and again!
Thank you SO much Margot! You are so sweet (and welcome to enter as many contests as you like). Glad you loved the dip, and I’m jealous of your avocado crop!
The dip looks luscious and moreish!
Thanks Angie!!
