Well Plated by Erin Blogger Erin Clarke in Long Pink Dress with Husband in Tux

^^This guy cleans up nice ?

Over the weekend, Ben and I attended a black tie gala, which gave me the ideal excuse to connect with my inner girly girl and sport a dress pink enough to make Barbie green with envy.

It was also my first (and hopefully only) time to put on a gown and curl my hair in an office bathroom. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen the hilarity go down over my stories. Cliff notes: we didn’t have time to head home before the event, so I became very comfortable with the mirror in the ladies’ room at Ben’s office instead. Hey, it beats a gas station!

More firsts: this event was also my first experience using Rent the Runway, and I am a forever fan. I was able to easily find dresses in my size and price range, read honest reviews from women with similar body types, and I ended up with a dress I loved. Anyone want to invite me to their next gala? I’ll dress the part!

The rest of life lately has been much more jean shorts and t-shirts, but I’ve been trying to get out and enjoy as much of summer as I can. My girlfriends (or in their absence, my faithful, furry date Teddy) and I have been visiting parks for live music, and my refrigerator runneth over with market zucchini. We’ll be eating these Healthy Zucchini Muffins for the next two months, and I couldn’t be more pleased.

I hope your life is filled of warm evenings, tomatoes for days, and second scoops of ice cream because it’s still summer and we can.

Here are a few of my latest favorites, including life-changing plastic wrap (FOR REAL) and a few cute impulse buys you need for fall!

Shopping: The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I was a good girl and returned most of what I bought (as I assured myself I would when I placed my order at 11:45 pm), but a few things are harder to let go. My faves:

Speaking of Style: The Glamorous Grandmas of Instagram.

The Plastic Wrap that Changed My Life: My sister assured me that this plastic wrap and the corresponding refills would be worth the $$, and she was right. It seals easily and securely, doesn’t cling to itself annoyingly, and the dispenser/slide cutter is a life upgrade I didn’t know I needed. It’s the little things.

Latest Cookbook Recipe I Tried And Loved: I cooked four in one week from my friend Gaby’s cookbook, What’s Gaby Cooking: Everyday California Food, and ALL were smash hits. Start with the Grilled Citrus Salmon Skewers with Basil Vinaigrette. Simple and superb!

Reading: I’m at a lull right now! Any recs? I have been loving the latest issues of Food and Wine though. Does that count?

Don’t Go Hangry: The best travel snacks according to a flight attendant.

  1. Best book of the year for me – The Great Alone by Kristen Hannah.  I couldn’t put it down but was sorry when I finished.

      1. I absolutely second Beth’s recommendation for The Great Alone. Best book I have read in the past year as well. Others I thought were very good: Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, The Alice Network, Before We Were Yours, The Ghost Writer, and Educated (memoir). I am SO ordering that plastic wrap as soon as I finish typing this. Thanks!

        1. Julie, THANK YOU for the great recs (and that plastic wrap is such a life upgrade! It’s the little things.)

  2. What a beautiful dress! You look stunning and you are a great looking couple. Hope you had fun — do you really eat what you make because you are so teeny-tiny!

Just got an instant pot and am looking forward to trying some of your recipes!

    1. Tami, thank you! And yes we do really eat everything I make. It definitely helps that most of my recipes are healthy! (Though on weeks I cook a lot, I share leftovers with friends/neighbors too. They don’t seem to mind :) ).

  3. Ha, omg, LOVED the “I’m Old” post…relate to soo many of these!
And that cardigan you returned I would totally die for!

  4. I have that same plastic wrap dispenser (as well at their aluminum foil dispenser) and from my experience once you use up the wrap that comes with it you can buy cling wrap at the grocery store and it fits and works great, so you don’t necessarily have to buy their more expensive refills.

    1. Interesting Amanda! I actually find that the refills themselves are a better quality plastic too. Maybe I’ve just been trying the wrong wrap at the store!
