Fresh Looks for Fall {+ White Plum Giveaway!}

I am such a summer girl. I never want to put on anything heavier than a sweatshirt, loathe driving in the snow, and mourn the disappearance of farm stand tomatoes. Normally, today—the last day in August—sends me into a fit of denial, and I handle it by wearing flip flops and playing Jimmy Buffet. This year, however, is different. For the first time in my life, I have the fall warm fuzzies! Yes, September, scarves, and cinnamon, I’ll be happy to see you.

White Plum Giveaway-Side by SideI know some of you have been pinning pumpkin recipes for weeks; others would prefer to throw an apple pie in my face for uttering the f-word (ahem, “fall”) while it’s still August, but I can’t help myself. The first cool morning hit here a few days ago, and I suddenly I want to pick apples, eat pumpkin spice everything, and dunk my life in maple syrup. I’m even excited to rake leaves now that we have an actual yard. (Ask me how I feel about leaves in four weeks).

Fall is also pretty much the only time I shop for clothing for myself. Confession time: I hate shopping. Actually, that’s a lie—I love the types of shopping that most people hate—grocery shopping and Christmas shopping—perhaps because they typically end in chocolate. Clothes shopping, however, is generally a miserable experience for me. I can’t handle the lines, dressing room mirrors are a nightmare, and I almost never have an idea of which items match each other.

On Wednesday, Ben and I moved to Milwaukee, and during the painful packing process, I finally ditched the ill-fitting sweaters I’d owned since freshman year of college. We’re starting fresh in a new home in new city, and I’m hoping to add a few cute pieces to my fall wardrobe, without spending too much of the money I’ve set aside for less exciting items (i.e., a leaf blower).

I was recently introduced to White Plum, an online shopping website that focuses on affordable, vintage-inspired styles. I immediately liked it, because many of the pieces are easy to mix and match, and I can layer them with items I already own too. (Pssst! Spoiler alert: White Plum is offering each of you 20% off with the discount code LAWSTUDENTSWIFE!)

White Plum

White Plum sent me a few pieces to try, and I immediately loved how comfortable they were. As tempting as it is to stay in yoga pants all day, I love that I have an option that’s easy to wear, but leaves me feeling a little stylish too. Here are a few I’ve tried.

{Disclaimer: At the age of 11, I participated in a fashion show at our local mall’s Limited Too. I have not modeled since that awkward day, as these pictures will attest. Be gentle.}

Meet the world’s most comfortable leggings, paired with the world’s most comfortable top. At first, I didn’t think I was brave enough to handle the print, but now I think they are so fun. I wear black leggings with boldly printed tops all the time, so why not try the reverse? Plus, I have an attachment to anything I can wear with my favorite boots.

Bolded printed leggings and black tunic with booksHere’s the top again, this time paired with basic blue jeans and fun heels. Date night, please.

Black tunic with red heelsNow onto the wardrobe ultimate in versatility: the scarf. Since moving to Wisconsin, I’ve become a total scarf person, and I immediately fell for this printed infinity scarf. I love that I can throw it on over even the plainest of tops and create a put together look.
