I made these and used sunflower butter instead of peanut butter & pumpkin seeds instead of sunflower seeds. I added in dried cranberries. They came out great! I like knowing that there is no added junk ingredients in these and the ability to change up the add-ins in many variations. Thank you.
9 grams of sugar in each bar is 4 and 3/4 tsp of sugar in each bar. Isn’t that alot? If I used sugar free syrup would that help with the sugar amount? And maybe sugar free chocolate chips?
Taste amazing! I tripled it and used a 1/2 sheet pan with sides. Pineapple and apple (dried). Also, a tip from another pastry chef… use a fondant smoother to press down and even out the bars before baking. So much easier
I’d love advice on how to successfully add chia seeds to these granola bars – they look great! (Do I need to alter anything?)
Also – has anyone tried liquid allulose (RxSugar) instead of honey?
Hi Julie, the mix-in possibilities are endless! You could either substitute the chia seeds for the chocolate chips or add add some in with the chocolate chips. I’d just stick to 1/3 cup of mix-ins. Enjoy!
So glad I found this recipe! This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for! I doubled the recipe, and used a jelly roll pan to make 20 bars. I didn’t have enough honey, so I used a mix of honey, agave nectar, and pure maple syrup. I used organic, no sugar added dried fruit for the mix ins. So so so good! Even my picky husband loves them. Thanks so much!
These were fantastic! Everybody in my family enjoyed them, kids and husband alike. They are versatile and freezer friendly. Even only eating a small one, they are very filling.
I made these to take camping and they were definitely a hit. I used peanut butter and peanuts for the protein with some dried cranberry and raisins. Everyone loves them. I plan to make them again next time using other nuts and almond butter. Thanks for this great recipe.
Hi Kath! You can double it in a 9×13 pan. Also for your recipe card, it has limitations. When you increase the serving sizes it will increase the ingredient amounts but unfortunately does not change the text that is written in the instructions. Hope this helps!
I want to try this recipe! I’m not a coconut fan and (more importantly)don’t have any coconut flakes on hand. I tried to read through the comments to see if anyone had made it without these. Would you consider this a necessary ingredient?
The bars were good but not at all healthy, at 272 calories, 13 grams of fat and 19 grams of sugar this is not at all healthy just wish I had noticed the calorie info before I made them. But to each their own if it doesn’t matter to them.
Very very good! Great recipe. My kids love them. So much better than all that crap in the stores. They stayed together to be able to cut into bars. I feel a lot of online recipes turn into crumble. I added dates and raisins instead of chocolate.
These were delicious. We absolutely loved it. I mostly followed the recipe, but substituted almond butter for peanut butter, and skipped the coconut. I will definitely make these again. Thanks!
Granola bars that actually stay together: amazing! I used quick cooking oats and Sunbutter since that’s what I had on hand, and decreased the amount of oats by 2 tbsp since they’re more absorbent than whole flake. I subbed Lyle’s Golden Syrup for the honey to keep them vegan, it’s REALLY STICKY so I figured it would work well here. I actually skipped adding fruit or chocolate chips as I thought that might make them too sweet for my taste, and sprinkled with flaky sea salt right after they came out of the oven. They went in my carry on bag for an international flight, and are still holding up great at my destination! Thanks for a super recipe that works well, even with substitutions!
Do you have any recommendation for something unsweet to add instead of most of the honey? I’m hoping to makes bars that are significantly less sweet than store bought so I want to half (or even quarter) the honey, but I suspect the bars won’t bind together if I do. Thanks!

So glad that it worked well for you, Vinessa! Thank you!

Hi Laurie, I haven’t tested it that way but it might work. If you decide to experiment, I’d love to know how it goes!

How long did you bake them?

So glad to hear, Anna! Thank you!
I have made these 8 or 10 times. I love them. I haven’t made any modifications.

whart size pan do you use if you double for 20 bars? The quantities change but the rest of the recipe doesn’t.

Hi! Add another 3 tablespoons oats and judge the consistency from there. Hope this helps!
These are delicious bars. I have made them many times now and my family loves them!
So glad to hear! Thank you!
I would make this recipe again… so good!! They didn’t stay as bars but this was just as delicious as snack bites and as a yogurt topper.

I would make this recipe again
Thank you Pia!

Yay! Love to hear that, Margaret! Thank you!

Hi Lev! Honey can be substituted with an equal amount of maple syrup or brown rice syrup.
Oooh I actually looked it up and brown rice syrup is at least a lot less sweet so I’m going to try it. Thanks for the recommendation!!
Wonderful! Let us know how it goes, Lev!
