• Hello,
Thank you for the recipe – I’m in Australia and was wondering what you meant by half and half 1/2 cup of coconut milk – Is this equivalent to 120ml’s of coconut milk?

    1. Hi Holly! Half and half coconut milk in the US is typically made by combining coconut milk and coconut cream, or by using a blend of oat milk and coconut milk. Total used is going to be 1/2 cup or equivalent to about 118ml (based on my search). You can also just use full fat coconut milk. Hope this helps!

  • The flavor and texture was spot on. This will be my base for my curries from now on. The tomato paste is a must. I loved it.
NEXT TIME: I will leave out the cauliflower and use chicken thighs.5 stars

      1. I followed the recipe and it was redder than your photo and butter chicken in general, even after adding the half and half and yogurt, then adding more half and half. It also tastes both bland and acidic. Any tips to make it pleasing? I won’t be making again.

        1. I’m sorry to hear the recipe wasn’t to your taste, Eleanor. The amounts, flavorings and timing have worked well for myself (and others) so I wished it would have been a hit for you too! I know it can be so disappointing to try a new recipe and it does not turn out for you.

  • I have just made this and I had been looking forward to it for hours! It smells amazing but is extremely runny and lacks a lot of flavour. No sweet buttery flavour can be found. It reminds me more of a tikka masala than a butter chicken. I usually love your recipes but this one has left me feeling very disappointed.2 stars

    1. I’m sorry to hear the recipe wasn’t to your taste, Judy. I know it’s disappointing to try a new recipe and not enjoy it. I (and many other readers) have enjoyed it, so I really wish they would’ve been a hit for you too!

  • Is that your photo? mine was significantly more red, and i don’t know it would be yellow at all with all that tomato sauce and tomato paste. mine was more like a vindaloo. it was still good, but definitely not like any butter chicken i’ve ever ordered.3 stars

    1. Hi Tom! Yep, that’s my photo. In fact they all are! Mine was more of a an orange hue due to adding the coconut milk and Greek yogurt. Glad you enjoyed it!

  • I made this and it was a huge hit. I tried it out on our friends. They loved it. 💖
I was wondering if I can make this vegan style for family members that don’t use any animal products.?

    1. Hi Eileen! Yes, we have the vegan version listed in the blog post under recipe variations. So glad you enjoyed the recipe!

    1. Hi Don! I haven’t tried it but it would likely work. It will be tricky with the fresh broccoli because it gets rather soft after being in the crockpot that long. You could add frozen broccoli in the last half hour. If you decide to experiment, I’d love to know how it goes!

  • Really enjoyed this. I feel the instructions could have been simpler, but I retyped them for my own cook book. Removed the cauliflower, added a large teaspoon of sugar and only used 1.5 tsp of curry powder and garam masala.5 stars

  • Thank you soo much for this recipe!!I made it, and it was soo much easier than others and truly delicious. I love the addition of the cauliflower as well. I feel if you were vegetarian, you could just make this with cauliflower and put them in later and it would be perfect or add chick peas.

I did add 1 tablespoon of sugar afterwards to help with acidity, and it made it taste like a restaurant version. Then to my personal bowl, I added half spice paprika for more of a kick. This will be on our regular rotation.5 stars

  • Comfort food at its finest. We absolutely loved it! We make this dish a couple time a month. Make some fresh garlic naan bread to go with it. 🔥🔥🔥5 stars

  • I didn’t do anything on the stove top, I just mixed the sauce and put the raw onions in the crockpot and it came out perfect. If you’re low on motivation or just don’t want to dirty another dish, it turns out just fine without it. The flavor was great. I’ll definitely be making this again!5 stars

  • I was in India for 2yrs due to work and I have missed all of the amazing food and spices they have. This recipe really brought me back there. I even found an amazing Indian store by me while I was trying to find the garam masala. This recipe was super easy to make and very delicious. I will definitely make it again. I might try to double the sauce to it because I do like it more saucy but also, I think I used to much chicken. Either way, this recipe is definitely a win for me. Thanks5 stars

    1. Hi H! I’m so confused because I see it on my end. It is listed right after the coconut milk and says “½ cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt or non-dairy yogurt to make dairy free” Could you please check again?

      1. Weird, it must be a glitch on my end! I’ve attached a screenshot of what I’m seeing. I’m using Safari on mobile ver. 18.6.2.

More importantly: I love this recipe! I’ve made it twice and it has been amazing both times.5 stars

  • This was so delicious. I didn’t have tomato paste so I just subbed one XL can of diced tomatoes to cover the two tomato bases and it turned out so good!! Made cilantro lime rice as a side. Highly recommend! I also used bone-in, skin-pn chicken thighs. I removed the skin b4 slow cooking and the chicken fell off the bone when done.5 stars

  • Can a rotisserie chicken be used in this recipe by taking the chicken off and just mixing in with all the ingredients?4 stars

    1. Hi Rene, I think you could do something like that! If using cooked chicken, you could easily mix the sauce in a pot on the stove, then add the rotisserie chicken and cook till the chicken is warm.

  • My husband has been following me around raving about this recipe! It was really good and not too spicy. Our kids enjoyed it as well :)5 stars

    1. Hi Amber, it’s actually both. Ingredient #10 on the list is tomato paste. Ingredient #12 on the list is tomato sauce. In the directions, tomato paste gets added in step 1 and the tomato sauce gets added in step 2. Hope this helps!
