It feels like a goddess day! I have a cleansing Apple Avocado Smoothie that’s energizing, filling, and total “glow” material. Made with avocado, apple, banana, ginger, and spinach, it’s packed with fiber, making it super breakfast smoothie material (so filling!) and detox smoothie material (hi, Monday), and it will leave you feeling divine inside and out.

Cleansing Apple Avocado Smoothie with banana, ginger, and spinach. Vegan, high fiber, and perfect for weightloss, this easy, creamy vegan green smoothie will keep you full all morning! #greensmoothie #avocadosmoothie #healthy #weightloss

While going on a “cleanse” isn’t exactly my style (short-term detoxes of the smoothie variety or otherwise have never been sustainable for me), I do love the idea of using the start of the week as a healthy reset, particularly since on Friday night, we had a family food/bar crawl through downtown Milwaukee that started with cocktails, reached a midpoint with tater tots and wings, and ended with ice cream. Saturday night, Ben and I hosted six friends for dinner, all of whom share our gusto for good eats and drinks in great quantities.

(For the curious, I made Ina Garten’s four-hour leg of lamb and French white beans from Foolproof, one of my all time favorite cookbooks. It’s my second time making both, and they were even better than I remembered!)

While I have no regrets about either evening—except perhaps wearing high-waisted jeans…NEVER AGAIN—today feels like an appropriate green smoothie detox day.

Healthy Apple Avocado Smoothie. Creamy, vegan, and packed with fiber, this delicious avocado smoothie will keep you full all morning!

What Makes This Cleansing Apple Avocado Smoothie Cleansing?

What makes this an especially cleansing smoothie recipe is the combination of spinach and apple, which are both high in fiber and thus help clear your system. If you are looking for smoothies for weight loss—or if, like me, you have serious hanger issues—fiber is a critical factor to prioritize because it means the smoothie will keep you fuller for longer.

Creamy Apple Avocado Smoothie. This a favorite of cleansing smoothies! Packed with avocado, banana, spinach, apple, and ginger and made with almond milk to keep it vegan.

Fresh ginger, another one of our star smoothie ingredients, is known to help with digestion. I also adore the flavor ginger adds. It gives the apple smoothie a welcome, energizing pop! that brightens my winter blues.

Speaking of winter…our final star green ingredient is avocado, which makes the smoothie ultra creamy and satisfying. Avocado is also great for your skin, a welcome plus at this most blustery time of year.

If you haven’t tried avocado in your smoothies yet, DO IT! Avocado gives smoothies a creamy, velvety texture that feels ultra indulgent. This Blueberry Banana Avocado Smoothie and this Avocado Mint Smoothie, which tastes like a shamrock shake (!!), are two of my other favorite avocado smoothie recipes.

Amping up the creamy factor further is frozen banana. It also gives the smoothie much of its sweetness naturally, and if you’d like it a bit sweeter, you can add additional honey too.

Apple Avocado Smoothie. Made with almond milk for the perfect vegan breakfast or snack. This apple smoothie is made with banana, spinach, and ginger to keep you fuller longer.

We’re just past 21 days into January, and if you’ve been doing one of those 21-day green smoothie detox programs that I keep spotting in my Pinterest feed (has anyone tried this?), I hope today’s Apple Avocado Smoothie is a welcome addition to your green smoothie routine. Or if, like me, you just need a little post-weekend reset, this vibrant green apple banana smoothie has you covered there too.

Cleansing Apple Avocado Smoothie. The best healthy avocado banana spinach apple smoothie! Made with almond milk and flavored with ginger for a bright, fresh taste. Great for a healthy breakfast!

This cleansing smoothie packs the health benefits you are seeking when you pull out your blender to make it in the first place, but the addition of less-standard ingredients such as ginger, apple, and avocado make it shine among the rest. If you’ve been looking to freshen up your green routine, this apple smoothie has you covered! (This Beet Smoothie and Apple Smoothie also pack a nutritious punch!)

This recipe yields a fairly large amount (enough for two smoothies). It can last up to 24 hours in the refrigerator, so I like to make the full recipe, drink half right away, and then store the other half in a mason jar in the refrigerator, either for breakfast the next day or for quick sips if I need an afternoon snack.

Blend Your Apple Avocado Smoothie (and every smoothie) Like a Boss

  • If at all possible, this goes much more smoothly (did you see what I did there?) in a high-powered blender. I have this one, and my sister swears by her Vitamix.
  • THAT SAID, you do not have to have a high-powered blender to make a delicious green smoothie! A standard blender (I owned this one for years) can still work well. I’ve included a suggestion in the recipe section for you below.

A cleansing green apple avocado smoothie that tastes delicious! Fresh and creamy with avocado, apple, banana, spinach, and fresh ginger, it's the perfect green smoothie for weight loss, detox, and healthy breakfasts too.

Prep: 5 minutes
Total: 5 minutes

Servings: 2 smoothies

  • 1 cup plain unsweetened almond milk
  • 4 cups loosely packed spinach that's about 2 large handfuls
  • 1 medium avocado peeled and pitted
  • 2 medium apples any kind you like, peel on, cored and quartered (if not using a high-powered blender such as a Vitamix, cut into a rough dice)
  • 1 medium banana cut into chunks and frozen
  • 2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup plus additional to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger or 1/4-inch knob of fresh ginger (if not using a high-power blender, mince the ginger first; use less than 1/2 teaspoon if you'd like a more subtle taste. This smoothie has some zip!)
  • Small handful of ice cubes
  • Optional additions: chia seeds flaxseed, protein powder, almond butter or other nut butter of choice

  • In the order listed, add the almond milk, spinach, avocado, apples, banana, honey, ginger, and ice to a high-powered blender.
  • Blend until smooth. Taste and adjust sweetness and spices as desired. Enjoy immediately.

  • If you have any leftovers or do not drink both smoothies right away, you can store the extra in an airtight glass container such as a mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 day. You can also halve the recipe if you prefer.
  • If you do not have a high-powered blender, I recommend blending the almond milk, spinach, and avocado first, and then add the apple, banana, honey, and ginger. Once completely smooth, slowly add and blend in the ice.

  1. Just tried this and it was soooo good and a change from my usual smoothie recipe. I process my spinach in food processor with a bit of water, and then freeze in cubes – Since my blender isn’t super high power I find this blends it up better and is a great way to save spinach before it goes bad, plus makes the smoothie icier. Thanks for the great recipe Erin!!5 stars

  2. Oh I saw that lamb you were making on IG stories. Definitely looked amazing. And yeah, I can see why you might want a little green smoothie action today! Lol. This sounds delicious. So many awesome ingredients!

  3. I just made the apple avocado smoothie. I am very impressive what the outcome is. It is very good!! and I will continue to make this recipe.

    Thank you!5 stars

    1. I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the smoothie, Michelle! Thanks for taking the time to leave this great review!

  4. I am new to the green smoothie thing, and this one was absolutely delicious. I tried a different recipe a few days ago, and it was horrible. This recipe is definitely going into my book of smoothie keeps.5 stars

    1. Jessica, I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed this smoothie! Thanks so much for giving it a try and taking the time to leave this awesome review. :)

  5. If I don’t have spinach on hand, would kale be too strong of a flavor for this recipe?

    Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Amanda! I think that really depends on how you feel about kale. It would be a stronger flavor, but if you like it, it might not bother you. Another tip is to add some frozen pineapple or mango. I find either completely neutralizes the flavor of the kale. I hope you love the recipe!

  6. This sounds wonderful! I am interested in a healthy smoothie, that will promote weight lost.
I was concern with the sugar in this smoothie. Help!

    1. Hi Pearl, smoothies with fruit are usually higher in sugar because fruit has a lot of natural sugar. You can cut back on the honey and maple syrup if you prefer a less sweet smoothie!

  7. Just made this, except I did wild berries instead of banana since I had a banana already:) so good! Thanks!!5 stars

  8. I’ve been making so many of your recipes. I would love for them to be in a cookbook . I’ve looked online and can’t find one. Am I missing it? Every recipe turns out so good.

    1. Hi Judy! Thank you so much for this incredibly kind comment and interest in a cookbook! While I do not have a book available at the moment, I am publishing one late next summer. You can read more about it in this post: I look forward to sharing it with you very soon!

  9. Surprisingly it was DELICIOUS! I used a dash regular skim milk to help blend the concoction, apples (that were picked from our family apple picking trip), peach flavored greek yogurt, omitted the honey and spinach because I didn’t have any spinach. ☹5 stars

  10. Made this today for breakfast, using kale instead because I didn’t have any spinach. Loved it! Still have more for tomorrow. The great green color was welcome too (cherry on a snowy day). Thank you. Can’t wait to try your other recipes. :)5 stars

  11. Hi Erin!

Thank you for this wonderful recipe! I was looking for some ideas for a smoothie using what we have here in the house. We had every ingredient handy except for honey but the smoothie still came out great! The only thing that I did different was use water and ice in place of almond milk & since I didn’t have honey,  I added lemon juice as a tart sweetener. Very tasty, I’m thinking of making another one tomorrow. I couldn’t wait another day for the bananas to ripen , so maybe tomorrow it’ll be a little better and make the smoothie even sweeter! Thanks again ! – Bri5 stars

  12. Good morning

Could I use simply smart low fat milk in place of almond milk for the apple/avcocardo smoothie

  13. I made this smoothie and my husband and I both agree that it was delicious and very refreshing! There is so much good stuff packed into this smoothie, but it’s also nice that it actually tastes good! We made a double batch and had extra for the next day. I will definitely be making this again!5 stars

  14. Can this smoothie and the Avocado Mint smoothie be frozen in popsicle form? Desperate to get my grandsons to eat something that’s good for them.

    1. Janet, I am afraid it would freeze too hard. You might check out these though!

    1. Hi Nweniaung! Unfortunately, I don’t have the exact amount per serving, but you could eyeball it into two equal portions. I hope this helps!

  15. I’m not a breakfast smoothie fan, but on the day after thanksgiving I really felt like something light and healthy for breakfast. I had all the ingredients for this on hand so I thought I’d try it. It’s actually quite good! Didn’t even need the honey.5 stars

    1. I was craving for a refreshingly, yummy yet healthy drink on this hot day… so I found your recipe, I luckily had all the ingredients and so I mixed it up. Let me say, it hit the spot perfectly.
There was a light creamyness from the milk and avocado on the palette, with a nice subtle sweetness from the apples and honey, and it left a lovely refreshing after-taste from the spinach and ginger which gave me a happy feeling and a confirmation that this smoothie is not only yummy, but is also healthy.
Thank you for this recipe Erin, I will definatly make again since it has a taste that could become very addicting, drinkers beware. ;)5 stars

  16. Delicious! It tasted really sweet yet healthy! I also tried it without ginger (as I didn’t have any) and it was just as good! My top 3 smoothie recipes.5 stars

  17. Really good! I was nervous because I don’t like avocados but we had some at the house and I decided to give it a try. I was so surprised! Thank you.5 stars

  19. This smoothie recipe seems amazing and I can’t wait to try it! I noticed that the nutritional info contains an error in the carbohydrate content (the sugar and fiber totals more than the total carb listed.) Would it be possible to review and update that information? Thank you.

    1. Hi Eddy! Unfortunately the way the nutritional facts are set up, I am not able to change them. The good news is that you can calculate the calories for free at MyFitnessPal (there are other similar sites too). I hope that can be a helpful resource for you! When in doubt, you should definitely check them out yourself!

  20. I went to the store to get everything for this recipe and let me tell you…. I made a batch and had enough for the next day. After I left the gym I made another batch and had one after and saved the rest for the next day. Im so addicted. It’s really good, satisfying and a great detox. I think im gonna do a smoothie for breakfast and dinner everyday for week I know I will definitely drop a few pounds and feel much more energized. Thanks so much. Gonna look up more of your recipes…5 stars

  21. Wow, this is the most delicious green smoothie I’ve ever made!
I didn’t think the green ones were supposed to be nice, haha!

  22. Hi. Just read this article and found following:

    Is spinach another ingredient?5 stars

    1. Hi Irina! Yes spinach is #2 on the ingredient list. You can see all of the ingredients in the recipe card. Hope you enjoy it!

  24. I never had spinach but really needed a healthy smoothie. I added lemon juice. I’m allergic to almonds and used low fat plain yoghurt. Loved it. Thanks for the recipe. Definitely buying some spinach for the next time5 stars
