If you are looking for ways to relax and unwind, improve your sleep, relieve joint inflammation, or simply like the idea of adding a warm, tasty beverage to your evening routine, this Golden Milk recipe is for you!

Soothing Bedtime Golden Milk recipe in a cup with a cinnamon stick

Why You’ll Love This Easy Golden Milk Recipe

  • It’s Like a Warm Hug in a Cup. Golden milk tastes a little similar to chai tea or chai tea lattes, but it’s meant to soothe rather than stimulate. It has warm, aromatic spices with earthy flavors and is a great way to wind down at the end of the night.
  • It Can Be Adapted to Your Tastes and Needs. Beyond being the PERFECT bedtime beverage, I love traditional golden milk because you can tweak the recipe with other spices and ingredients to suit your personal dietary needs or taste preferences. For example, you can add a warm spice like nutmeg to give your drink an extra boost of cozy flavor. Or, you can swap the honey for maple syrup to make this drink vegan (or if you just prefer the taste).
  • It’s a Powerhouse of Nutritional Benefits. Golden milk (also called turmeric milk) is a warm beverage made with ingredients that are shown to reduce inflammation and help improve sleep, including turmeric and ginger, which give the drink its signature “golden” hue (it can be seen in this Turmeric Rice and this Turmeric Smoothie too).

“Oh my goodness, this was the best night drink I’ve ever had.”

Golden Milk Benefits

For centuries, healing golden milk has been used in Ayurvedic medicine (which originates in India) as an alternative remedy to soothe coughs, aches and pains, restlessness, and more.

Possible golden milk benefits include:

  • Better Sleep. Amino acids (like tryptophan), minerals, and other vital compounds are shown to promote more restful sleep.
  • Immune System Boost. Immune system-boosting antioxidants, which can help fight illness and infection.
  • Improved Organ Function. Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has been linked to improved brain function and heart health.
  • Less Pain. Anti-inflammatory properties that can ease joint pain and stiffness.
  • Improved Gut Health. Golden milk can aid in digestion, calm nausea, and improve overall gut health.

**As always, check with your doctor before turning to golden milk as a remedy or wellness supplement. The above is based on information available online. I’m not a dietician but enjoy reading about health and sharing what I’ve learned.

How to Make the Best Golden Milk

The Ingredients

  • Almonds. Rich in magnesium, which promotes both sleeping and muscle relaxation. This golden milk recipe uses them in the form of almond butter and almond milk (I also use both in this healthy Strawberry Smoothie).

Substitution Tip!

If you’re not a fan of almond milk, you may opt for any non-dairy milk of your choice to keep this recipe dairy-free; cashew milk is especially creamy. For more protein, use soy milk or pea milk.

You may also make golden milk using regular milk if dairy is not a concern for you.

  • Honey. This natural sweetener allows tryptophan (of Thanksgiving turkey fame) to enter the brain more easily.
  • Ginger. Calms the stomach and promotes relaxation. Some studies suggest ginger can also help reduce anxiety.
  • Turmeric. The all-important golden milk powder! Aids digestion and has calming properties, which lead to sounder sleep. If you have aches and pains, golden milk for joints is a popular remedy, as it is anti-inflammatory too.
  • Cinnamon. Similar to turmeric and ginger, cinnamon also helps with digestion. PLUS it supports healthy sugar metabolism and is a delicious pairing with the other ingredients (like in this Apple Cider).

The Directions

  1. Add Everything to a Saucepan. Make sure your pot isn’t too full for whisking.

  1. Warm the Mixture. Whisk constantly to ensure everything is incorporated.
  2. Serve. Pour into a mug. ENJOY!

Recipe Variations

  • Add Black Peppercorns. Studies show that to get the full benefit of turmeric, you should pair it with black pepper which has piperine. Piperine boosts the body’s ability to absorb curcumin, the key compound in turmeric that fights inflammation. It’s a bit much for me at bedtime, so I usually leave it out. Personal preference!
  • Spice It Up. For those who like a kick, try cayenne golden milk (start with a TINY pinch).
  • Add Coconut Oil. Improves the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, calcium, and magnesium.
  • Add Ghee. Adding just a teaspoon of ghee is thought to alleviate cold symptoms. Similar to adding honey to tea, ghee coats the throat which can help soothe a sore throat and ease a persistent cough.
  • Golden Milk Tea. Add a bag of your favorite tea to the pot with the milk and spices, allowing it to steep while everything warms.

Storage Tips

  • To Store. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container such as a mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To Reheat. Reheat on the stove, stirring to recombine the spices and almond butter.

Meal Prep Tip

Since turmeric milk saves and reheats well, I like to make a double or triple batch, and then enjoy it several nights in a row.

What to Serve With Golden Milk

While this golden milk is a treat in itself, you can certainly pair it with something to eat.

  • Saucepan. Invest in a great set of saucepans for all your stovetop cooking needs.
  • Whisk. This slimmed-down size is ideal for stirring.
  • Hand Warming Mug. Not only is this mug incredibly cute, but it also uses a special design to keep your hand warm while you hold it. Talk about cozy!

Recipe Tips and Tricks

  • Try This Spiced Milk for Sleep. While you can enjoy turmeric milk any time of the day, most suggest drinking it about an hour before bedtime to get the full effects of its relaxing, soothing properties.
  • Whisk Those Spices. Make sure to whisk your spices well to prevent clumping in the turmeric milk. If you want to go the extra mile, blend it in a blender to distribute the spices and prevent them from settling at the bottom once poured.
  • Or, Consider Whole Spices. If you prefer not to have any residue, simmer your milk with whole spices instead.
  • Try the Coconut Oil Addition. As I mentioned in the “recipe variations” section above, coconut oil is a common addition to this drink. It helps your body absorb some of the nutrients better, and it may make your drink more frothy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Golden Milk Be Drunk Cold?

I’ve always enjoyed drinking turmeric milk warm since it is believed that it better activates the anti-inflammatory ingredients in turmeric and other spices. However, if you simply want to enjoy the flavor of the golden milk, I’m sure it would be lovely chilled, served over ice, or even as a blended turmeric milk frappe.

What is the Difference Between Golden Milk and Turmeric Latte?

Nothing! They are the same thing. You can call this recipe golden milk or call it a turmeric latte, whichever suits your fancy.

Will Golden Milk Stain My Teeth?

Turmeric does stain fingers easily and can stain teeth over time, but unless you are consuming a lot of golden milk, it is very unlikely to stain your teeth.

    1. Hi Angie, the golden milk will have a different flavor. I haven’t done it myself, but I’ve seen recipes that use coconut oil, so you’re welcome to give it a try!

  1. Been fighting a virus 10+days, and made this tonight, it’s so delicious. Only had unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and cashew butter to substitute, but I really like it!! Hoping it helps with the crud too! 5 stars

    1. Erin, I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave this wonderful review.

      1. I’m going to this bedtime golden milk tonight. But I want to use my lactose free milk instead of almond milk. I usually just drink a cup of warm milk, cinnamon ,honey and vanilla about an hour before bed. Its works good too

  2. I’d had a turmeric latte at a cafe before and loved it, so I figured this would be delicious – and it was!! I made your recipe as is but I think I may add a Tbsp of coconut oil to it tonight, as I’ve read that it helps the body absorb the turmeric better (?). Thanks for sharing this recipe!5 stars

      1. Soooooo Yum.

I added some coconut oil but this will become part of my sons and my bedtime routine5 stars

    1. Any type of fat helps it absorb so the almond butter and milk cover that, but I’m sure an extra dose of coconut oil doesn’t hurt. Black pepper also boosts absorption.

  3. This Bedtime Golden Milk is a warm, cozy hug in a mug! Super easy to make and so delicious. Satisfied my late-night sweet tooth and calmed me for bedtime. This is going to be a staple recipe in my house!5 stars

    1. THANK YOU so much Kayla! I am so happy that you loved it and really appreciate your time for the review. I love the way you described it too :)

  4. Is this safe for pregnant women and can I give it to my 5 and 3 year old to help them calm down for the night?

    1. Hi Jeanene! Since I don’t have a medical background, I’d check with your doctor. I’d hate to give you advice that isn’t correct and want to be safe!

  5. The Hubby and I loved this recipe! The blend of spices was perfect and was very relaxing before bedtime! Thank you for sharing your recipes, we are excited to try more of them out!5 stars

    1. YAY!!! I’m so so happy to hear that Valerie. Thanks for trying the recipe and taking time to leave this wonderful review!

  6. Hi Claire, I followed the recipe as written, so the color might just be a difference in our almond milk or spices, but the flavor is what is most important!

  7. I didn’t think I would like this because I’m not a big turmeric or ginger fan (or so I thought), but those beautiful yellow, creamy beverage photos drew me in….. I’m so glad I gave it a try because it is amazing!  I used 1/4c of canned lite coconut milk and 3/4c almond milk and followed the recipe as written otherwise (added the pinch of cloves). The addition of the almond butter  makes this recipe stand out amongst all the rest! My new go-to nightly drink!!5 stars

  8. So I don’t have any almond butter (but now it’s on my list) so I made this without the almond butter. It’s my first time using turmeric so I added a little extra local honey, plus the pollen is so bad right now that the added honey has its benefits, tonight for the first time. I LOVE IT!!! 5 stars

    1. HOORAY Lauren! I’m so glad you enjoyed it, even with the swaps. Thanks for giving it a try and reporting back!

  9. I made this without the ginger (planning to get some this week) i didnt have almond butter either so i replaced it with organic creamy peanutbutter, it was AMAZING! Im having it in the morning, feeling achey and have a migraine so I thought this would be a good idea to make. Forsure gonna be having this everyday!5 stars

    1. Faith, I’m so glad you enjoyed the golden milk! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave this wonderful review.

  10. I saw this recipe and was determined to get everything I needed to follow it exactly. I used light organic canned coconut milk and fresh ground turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon I purchased at a spice farm in Costa Rica and their vanilla extract made from vanilla beans they grow on their farm. I have to say this was so much better than I ever dreamed it would be. Creamy, mildly sweet and spicy and just so warm and comforting. I plan on adding it to my nightly routine. 5 stars

    1. Lisa, I’m thrilled to hear the golden milk is a hit! Thanks so much for giving it a try and taking the time to leave this wonderful review!

  11. I used my plant-based pea milk and it was AMAZING!! I am unable to drink coffee due to gastritis and was really missing it, but I came across your delicious recipe and It’s now my go to before bed. Thank you so much for sharing!5 stars

    1. Hi Helen! I’d recommend heating the milk so that the spices and ingredients blend together smoothly. You can always chill the mixter after though and enjoy it that way.

    1. Sophie, I don’t think it would be as rich or creamy without the almond butter, but you can certainly play around and try the recipe without it.

  12. What a wonderful version of golden milk. Yum! I do want to mention that the pepper is symbiotic with the turmeric and allows for the most absorption/ and therefore te greatest health benefit. It is very effective for reducing inflammation this way. Hope that helps someone!5 stars

  13. Hi Erin, thanks for a fantastic recipe!! I tried Golden Milk for the first time this past weekend at a retreat center where the food was all organic with an Ayurvedic influence. I wasn’t a big fan of how they prepared it and figured there had to be a really good recipe that I’d like better somewhere. So I googled it and found yours–love it! Had to use peanut butter since that’s all I had, but almond butter is on my grocery list since I’ll be making this a lot now. Thanks again!!5 stars

    1. Hi Christina, I haven’t made it that way myself, but I think you could try it with any milk of your choice! I hope you enjoy!

  14. I suffer from insomnia horribly, and would like to try this. I am allergic to almonds however, so would regular butter work? I read where you said any milk should work, so I am going to give this us try. Thank You.

    1. Hi Elizabeth, I would not recommend regular butter, but if there’s another nut butter you could eat, I’d try that! You can also leave it out, although the drink won’t be as rich and creamy. I hope you enjoy!

  15. I make it with fresh ginger and it’s amazing! I’ve only used diary milk but now I have to try plant based too! Isn’t it bad for you to heat honey though? I’ve read that it only retains its healthy properties if added after the drink cools down a bit. But I’m not an expert.5 stars

    1. Hi Anna, you can certainly wait to stir in the honey after waiting a little bit if you’d like! Fresh ginger sounds like a delicious addition.

  16. Erin, thanks for the receipt! I made it with memade walnut milk and added some, also homemade haha, macadamia nut butter. To make it vegan I used agave syrup as sweetener (3 teaspoons for 2 cups) and it’s perfect.5 stars

  17. I have made this numerous times, and have to pace myself when drinking it. It is delicious. I did have a question though, would it change anything about this drink if it were to be made and then made into and iced drink?5 stars

    1. Hi Jessica, you could experiment! I think you could cook as the recipe directs, then let it cool to room temperature and place it in the refrigerator overnight. I’m honestly not sure if it will separate, but if you do give it a try, I would love to hear how that goes!

  18. So so lovely! Soothing after I had a dental extraction. Certainly helped me relax. Enveloped me in warmth . Thank you very much.5 stars

    1. Sarah, I’m glad this was just the relief for you. I hope you recover quickly! Thanks for taking time to leave this wonderful review too!

  19. I discovered Golden Milk recently and began to partake at night for the health benefits I’d read about, but somehow I missed the relaxing/ sleep helping quality. Then I realized I was sleeping better and getting sleepy at night. One night I missed my GM and was wide awake. The light bulb went on! I really enjoy this beverage too. It feels like a lavish treat, but is light and good for me! Cool, that is. I saw your recipe tonight with the added almond butter. Tomorrow night I will try this addition. (I use organic spices however.)

  20. Hi Erin, I made this recipe last night and it was A-MAZE-ING! I tripled the recipe, and plan to make this my new bedtime routine. Thank you so much!5 stars

  21. Am in a country where can’t get almond milk or almond butter so can I use fresh cow milk & add peanut butter then a bit extra honey for the creamy sweetish taste? Want to try this recipe was told by a friend she said she is addicted to it haha plus have been down for 2 weeks with summer flu nasty cough & have restless nights sleeping….

    1. Hi Jeannette, I haven’t tried it myself, but I think you could use any milk and nut butter you prefer! If you give it a try, I hope you enjoy it!

  22. I don’t even recall what I was searching for when this recipe popped into view a few minutes ago but a delicious new relaxing, anti-inflammatory pre-bedtime ritual was clearly begging to be found!! I am halfway through this delightful drink and had to thank you for sharing. This will definitely be a permanent part of my routine.5 stars

  23. So good! I used fresh ginger and tried adding a mushed half banana (magnesium and potassium to promote sleep) … works amazing with this recipe!5 stars

  24. I tried your recipe this evening, and it’s delicious! I’ve tried other variations before that were only tolerable. Thank you so much for sharing!5 stars

  25. I am totally addicted to this bedtime nightcap. It’s so delicious and it’s filled with such amazing benefits. Thank you 5 stars

  26. I have made golden milk many times before, but this recipe is an absolute keeper! I made this with peanut butter instead of almond butter and oat milk instead of almond milk. This is just what i needed, thank you!5 stars

  27. Love this so much! I used Oat milk and sunbutter (due to allergies) instead of what’s called for in the recipe and this was absolutely perfect!5 stars

  28. I have tried so many different versions of golden milk, and this is hands down my favorite. I didn’t have almond milk on hand so I used a combo of Nutpods and soy milk. Thanks so much for sharing!5 stars

  29. It was a hit here! Warm and delicious. I used unsweetened coconut milk, replaced the almond butter with coconut oil, and then used a hand blender to really mix everything together well. I will definitely be saving this one. Thank you!5 stars

  30. I like your recipe but I modify it because I use whole milk by fair life because I love dairy products.    The almond butter and the black pepper is a must for me.    Sometimes I add a little nutmeg.  Thanks4 stars

  31. This Golden Milk recipe was amazing ?!!!!  It’s warm frothy and filled my belly.  It’s not too heavy before bed and super easy to make.  As I have sleeping ? issues this is exactly what I needed.   Ty for sharing the recipe.  My husband even liked it.  5 stars

  32. Just tried a basic milk, turmeric & stevia recipe suggested by a friend.
I am hoping that the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric help with
arthritis. I actually look forward to this drink morning & night.4 stars

  33. This was delicious and I think I’m addicted. Half of my family is from India so I’ve always had a lot of spices in the cabinet. But I have a confession to make.. i made this spontaneously and I didn’t have almond butter. So I used 3/4 tsp regular butter lol I don’t know I panicked! But I saw in another recipe that someone used ghee so I felt like a touch of butter made sense in my time of need? But it still turned out amazing and my fiancé loved it too. I will make this again and try the almond butter as directed lol 5 stars

  34. Forgot to add! My 15month old son enjoyed this so much…he threw a tantrum when it was finished ?

  35. This is a beverage from India. Ask any Indian,l. You can also put a little Ghee in there if you dont mind it.

  36. Just made your awesome version of tumeric latte as I went for a run early this morning and knew my knees needed some love from a natural anti inflammatory drink!
It tasted soo good!!! I used peanut butter instead of almond butter and added some nutmeg and it was delicious! Thank you for this version as it will be my go to drink after a run or just an evening warm drink to snuggle up with a book or my favourite show ‘This is Us’! 5 stars

  37. I tried your version last night with the  almond butter in it and was delicious. Great idea. (I’ve only used coconut milk before.) One reader used organic PB and I might try that next. I added a few grinds of good pepper to help my body absorb it better. Thanks for posting … and sharing the cute story. 5 stars

  38. Awesome recipe!! I made a few minor changes, used fresh turmeric that I picked up at the farmers market and I happened to have unsweetened vanilla almond milk, so I went with that and skipped adding the vanilla extract. Love the addition of the almond butter! That’s why I chose this recipe over others. It made it just the right amount of creamy and added some extra flavor. What a delight to sip on during this chilly October morning! 5 stars

    1. Hi Dana! Thank you for taking the time to share your customizations and this kind review! I’m so happy to hear that this recipe was a hit!

  39. I’d never heard of putting almond butter in Golden Milk, but I love almond butter, so I had to try it!  And…I loved it!  Best almond milk I’ve ever had!  Many thanks!!!5 stars

    1. YAY! I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed this recipe, Tina! Thank you for taking the time to share this kind review!

  40. Made the recipe for the 1st time tonight. WOW! The only lacking ingredient was the almond butter. Heading to Aldi in the morning.  I made a double batch & miraculously my husband drank it with me. Who knew!  Looking forward to having a restful night. ? 5 stars

    1. YAY! Thank you for taking the time to share this kind review, Teresa! I’m so happy that you enjoyed the recipe!

  41. I really like this recipe, but I have to say, I did make a change or two…  I don’t really care to drink things that are hot, u less it’s soup, yeah I’m just weird like that…

So basically I doubled the recipe, but instead of double the liquid I added 8oz of Oatly frozen oat yogurt(I don’t know if you can consider it to be a yogurt), and two deglet noor dates… I didn’t have honey or almond milk, but I did have almond butter, go figure.. lol

Sorry for changing your recipe… ;)5 stars

    1. I’m so happy that you enjoyed this recipe, Troy! Thank you for taking the time to share this kind review and your alterations!

  42. If you or anyone in your family is subject to night sweats, either due to menopause or medication, do not use cinnamon or black pepper. These strongly heating spices can make nights a misery of sweaty awakenings and sleeplessness.

  43. I was so nervous about tasting the turmeric because I’m not really a big fan of it and let me tell you, I LOVE this drink!! Just made it and it tastes so good! I have IBS and I hope this helps with my bloating. Thank you for this awesome recipe! 5 stars

  44. So, I haven’t read through all the comments to see if this has already been answered, but I’m having trouble with this recipe. I follow it to the letter, but no matter how much I whisk and stir, I just get a mouthful of powder at the end. My ground ingredients don’t incorporate, or dissolve. Are they supposed to? What am I doing wrong? The taste is excellent, it’s just the texture that I’m having trouble with.

    1. Hi Katie, I’m sorry this happened! The spices won’t completely dissolve, but they shouldn’t be clumpy. Are your spices older? The spice that tends to clump most is cinnamon. If you’re bothered by the texture, you could try simmering a whole cinnamon stick in the milk instead of using the ground cinnamon. I hope that helps!

      1. Hi Erin – all the spices are new and they’re not really clumping, they’re just not disappearing like I thought they would. Just good to know I’m not doing anything wrong! I’ll have to try the cinnamon stick next time. Thanks!

  45. I make this with coconut oil, but the almond butter sounds delicious. You actually need the pepper for full effects of the turmeric to absorb in your body. In the capsules, they add pepper oil.

      1. This warm satisfying drink was delicious. I substituted organic agave for honey but other then that I followed the recipe. I did make it in my CBL frothing pitcher. Came out frothy, warm and oh so delicious. I have not drank coffee for 2 years or my doctors orders and this will be my new go to for a hot drink. Wish I could leave a picture.5 stars

  46. Hi, I’m going to try out this recipe to help me sleep at night. I tried this 4 ingredient turmeric latte. It has 8oz of unsweetened almond milk, 1 teaspoon ground turmeric, 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, and1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, I don’t know what happened it was too spicy. I followed the direction and warm the milk and added the ingredients and whisk it. I tried to use this to help me sleep, but couldn’t drink all of it. I’m not sure what happened. I’m going to try to use your recipe when I can get all of your ingredients together to make this recipe. I’m 60 years young and suddendly having problems to sleep. I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks for the time to answer me.

    1. Just add a pinch of black pepper. 1/4 tsp is a lot! No wonder it was spicy. Hope you sleep better :) also to round out the spices, I like to add a tiny amount (1/4 tsp) of raw honey or maple syrup.

  47. My son loves this! He’s drinking it now before bed and wanted me to leave you a 5 star compliment because he loves it so much!5 stars

  48. I tried this and it was so comforting! I didn’t notice a big difference in my sleep but it does help calm me down because it’s a hot drink and I really enjoy the taste of it. I have never tried golden milk before but this is definitely a recipe I’ll come back to often. Thanks so much!5 stars

  49. I’m 34 weeks pregnant and I wanted to know would this taste just as good with cows milk? I wouldn’t mind almond milk but I prefer the milk that has the highest content of calcium during my pregnancy.

    1. Hi! I haven’t tried it myself, but I think you could use any milk you prefer. If you give it a try, I hope you enjoy it!

  50. This is delicious. I tried it tonight and I am intending to enjoy one every evening. I was wondering about substituting the honey with monkfruit, have you ever tried that?5 stars

    1. I’m so happy that you enjoyed it, Joanne! Thank you for sharing this kind review! I have not tried this swap myself, so it would be an experiment.

  51. Goodness that play-by-play of your evening is everything I am! I am that, that is me! lol thanks for not making me feel so alone. I’m not usually big on turmeric but i LOVE this recipe. Almond butter, who would’ve known! Yum!5 stars

  52. This is my new favorite golden milk recipe hands down. I do substitute the almond butter for coconut oil simply because my daily nut butter intake is already pretty high!5 stars

  53. I’ve been dabbling in spices as remedies for my arthritis and migraines. This was my first stab at Turmeric milk and I am LOVING it. Thanks for making it so foolproof and simple for a newbie like me!5 stars

  54. Hi there!
Really Love the taste but after a little bit all the seasonings sunk to the bottle and I couldn’t finish it …. any suggestions to keeping it all together so I can drink the whole thing??
    Thank you!!4 stars

    1. I’m so happy that you enjoyed the flavor, Sarah! The spices won’t completely dissolve, but they shouldn’t be clumpy. If you’re bothered by the texture, you could try simmering a whole cinnamon stick in the milk instead of using the ground cinnamon, and another reader has reported success with using a blender to combine everything really well before drinking. I hope this helps!

  55. This is so warm creamy and comforting. I just added peanut butter and full cream milk because I didn’t have the listed ingredients at home and so good! Yum turmeric gives it a beautiful earthy flavour5 stars

  56. I was curious to try your recipe…it’s delicious! Made it with coconut milk, maple syrup, and cashew butter (that’s what was in my pantry). Thank you for sharing this recipe…it’s a keeper!5 stars

  57. We love this recipe! I added a little coconut oil to it. I like the almond taste better than the regular golden milk recipes. Definitely a favorite for us5 stars

  58. Oh my goodness, this was the best night drink I’ve ever had. I used peanut butter instead of nut butter. I slept like a baby then this morning I felt like going to the gym. I just made two cups to refrigerate for tonight and tomorrow night. Thanks for sharing. 🤗😊5 stars

      1. This is my first time drinking golden milk. I have been doing a lot of research about Ayurveda, as well as natural ways to relieve some personal things that I have going on. I was very skeptical of how something with this combination of spices (including pepper) could be remotely tasty. You proved a skeptic wrong! I used regular whole milk. I didn’t have almond, so I subbed equal amounts of coconut oil. I skipped the honey/maple syrup and didn’t add a sweetener. Everything else was the same and I will be returning to this recipe. Thank you!

ETA: I used a shaker bottle to blend everything together. It gave the drink a beautiful golden foam that makes you feel like you’re drinking a latte!5 stars

  59. Absolutely delicious. Really warming. Was struggling as to what to have late evening. This really hit the spot.5 stars

  60. This recipe is definitely a keeper and drinking it each night has become a part of my evening routine. Love it! However, the black pepper in this recipe should not be optional. It should be part of the full recipe. The key compounds in turmeric are called curcuminoids. Curcumin itself is the most active ingredient. Curcumin, however, is not well absorbed into the body. Black pepper contains the bioactive compound piperine. Piperine’s most significant benefit is its ability to boost the absorption of curcumin.5 stars

  61. I tried this recipe last night and really enjoyed the flavor but not so much the grittyness of the almond butter. Any suggestions Carol5 stars

    1. Hi Carol! I’ve not had a problem with grittiness so it’s hard to know how to fix that issue. Maybe use an immersion blender. But I would be super careful because the milk is hot. Hope this helps!

  62. Very tasty recipe, but next time i’ll Leave out almond butter, even after winking a long time it was grainy didn’t enjoy the pieces in the drink. Also pumpkin pie spice is a great flavor5 stars

  63. I made this tonight for the first time and it definitely won’t be the last! Quick, easy and delicious. I can’t wait to start feeling the benefits too.5 stars

  64. Yes I did it. Taste good, and hope to have a good sleep tonight. Oh, I also add 2 tsp of organic coconut oil.5 stars

  65. I rarely leave reviews but had to this time. I’ve tried various Golden Milk recipes over the years and never found one I could stomach. This recipe was awesome and is a keeper! Have tried it with coconut oil but never with a nut butter, which added a nice creamy consistency. Put in waaaay too much turmeric and it was still delicious. Used fresh grated ginger, a cinnamon stick, a few drops of stevia and black pepper for absorption. Used mac nut milk and PB because that’s what I had on hand. Will Be making this regularly. Thank you Erin!5 stars

  66. Hi Erin,
This Golden Milk is so much tastier made with Almond milk rather than just water. I used Coconut Oil instead of Almond butter. The vanilla adds a tasty flavor. This Golden Milk is my favorite Tumeric tea recipe.5 stars

  67. Such a soothing drink! It’s nuttier than what I’ve had at coffee shops around the country. As my first attempt at making it, I’m thrilled, it’s perfectly spicey and smooth! I did make a few changes though. I used oat milk and fresh turmeric/ginger, tripling what the dried version called for. I blended everything, steamed it, and took a sip… wasn’t ready to taste something so fantastic! If you want to use fresh herbs you may want to strain it before serving. I couldn’t be bothered to wait, it was too good!4 stars

  68. I really enjoyed this recipe. I’ve tried several other versions of Golden Milk and this definitely was the best. This will be my go to recipe from now on! Thanks Erin.5 stars

  69. I am impressed, this is a spot on recipe to an old “saffron milk” my mother used to make back in India. It is such an old traditional recipe in my region that I am verily surprised to see it here- and revamped to a new look and taste with the cinnamon and almonds.
It does well in keeping it’s roots with the large sum of turmeric for the gold-yellow colour and soothing aspects.
I would yearn to know how did Erin come by this concoction.5 stars

  70. Hello- I want to try this . Where did you buy your turmeric? I’m sure there are good and bad qualities .
    Thx

    1. Hi Sheila! I normally just pick up what’s available at my local grocery store, but you could also try the Trader Joe’s brand. Hope you enjoy it!

  71. My family loves this! The almond butter is a nice touch. I make a double batch in the blender, then refrigerate it to warm later.5 stars

  72. My go to nighttime drink, tastes great, I sleep so much better and wake up feeling good. Thank you so much for sharing.5 stars

  73. I have tried many golden milk recipes. Both store bought and homemade. BUT, this variation by far surpasses them all! This recipe was FANTASTIC!!!

  74. Love it 😀 😍 have done it a few times last week, so nice!! I can’t put maple syrup as need to avoid added sugar. It’s really nice ☺ thank you so much 💓
    Kind regards,

    Cynthia5 stars

    1. Hi Janet! The majority of the carbs do come from the honey. I’ve never tried swapping it for Stevia, but maple syrup will work instead of honey. I hope you enjoy it!

    1. Hi Jackie! It’s in the recipe card right above where you commented. Also you can click the “jump to recipe” button that is located at the top of the post. Hope you enjoy it!

  75. Absolutely delicious! I am so glad I found this recipe. I did use sugar free vanilla syrup instead of honey and it was great.5 stars

  76. I am new to Golden Milk, and this is the first recipe I have tried. And I want to say, it is DELICIOUS and I have no desire to look any further! I am a vegan who also tries to eat as close to 100% organic as possible. I used coconut milk, and followed the recipe to the letter, using all organic ingredients, of course. It was so comforting and soothing. I am HOOKED! (PS I used a small inexpensive battery-operated whisk from IKEA and my Golden Milk was very smooth and slightly frothy.) I totally recommend this recipe, and I THANK YOU for it!5 stars

  77. This was so good! I used whole milk and followed the recipe exactly. Then I added a couple dashes of cloves and nutmeg bc I love those and a pinch of freshly ground pepper.

I had a hard time not gulping it…..it’s THAT good. Thank you for this recipe!5 stars

  78. I can easily say that I’m impressed with how tasty this was. I wouldn’t change a thing with recipe given. I even added a slight pinch of black pepper. Delicious!5 stars

  79. Delicious and simple! I like things that are easy to make and I don’t have to buy all kinds of exotic ingredients! Only problem I had was that I only had chunky almond butter. Should have put it in the blender. Lol! But still delicious!5 stars

  80. This is a comment and an invitation to respond to a question: I have tried different recipes for Golden Milk, including this one, and my biggest problem I guess has been the consistency, or what others may call ‘creaminess’. I cannot get used to the taste of turmeric in a creamy drink. I have been toying with the idea of using the same m e ingredients in a broth, like beef or chicken. Has anyone tried this? I know the honey is beneficial, but I don’t know how the sweetness would go in a more savory drink. Thoughts?4 stars

    1. Hi Cathie, I’ve only tried it this way but would love to hear how it turns out if you decide to play around with it!

  81. Loved this recipe! Favorite one I’ve found so far and love the almond butter addition… so satisfying and rich. Perfect before bedtime 😍5 stars

  82. I like how delicious yet simple this recipe is. It’s a bit heavy on the cinnamon for me, but I will definitely make it again with an adjustment. Also, I used coconut oil in place of almond butter (didn’t have any), but I bet almond butter would be that much more decadent. Recovering from the flu, and this is just so very comforting. Thank you.5 stars

  83. Really good, drinking a mug of it now. I leave out the almond butter just because it always seems to settle at the bottom of the mug. I cut down the honey to 1 tsp which is sweet enough for me. And if you want to save yourself a saucepan to clean, this recipe works just as well by combining all of the ingredients in a mug and nuking for a minute or two.5 stars

  84. I LOVE the results of the drink!! No almond butter for me, but no problem. I switched it out with peanut butter and there was a winner! I’ll definitely make it again. Thanks so much for sharing 😊5 stars

  85. Oh my, this golden milk is so creamy and soft, it immediately puts my body at ease… I did the recipe just as described, I made 2x it so my brother could try with me. I can now tweak this to whatever I want to add and/or take away, but this recipe is superb and that’s from me!5 stars

  86. This sounds great and I always like a little Almond milk at night. Will try it right now! Thanks for it his great tip!!5 stars

  87. Yum! Just made this tonight, but used 2% milk, honey, vanilla, tumeric, cinnamon and a wee bit of black pepper and it is DELICIOUS. I did add a bit more honey to mine after the first couple sips because the sweetness balanced out the tumeric and to me it needed a little more. I don’t normally use almond butter but may try the peanut butter substitution I read in a previous comment next time. If I don’t like that I’ll just stick with this combo. Thank you for the recipe!

  88. You explain the ingredient properties well, but not the amounts to use for golden milk, at least not anywhere I could find them.

    1. Hi Herschel! All of the ingredients and directions are listed in the recipe card above the area where you commented. There is even a “jump to recipe” button that is located at the top of the page to help navigate you there. Enjoy!

  89. Best Golden Milk recipe out there (and I’ve made many)! It’s warm and comforting and great for the body and mind. Thanks so much for the recipe. It’s a keeper!5 stars

  90. This comforting drink is delicious. I sub the almond butter with a tablespoon of peanut butter powder. I put everything in a measuring cup, and nuke it, as well. Totally works. So relaxing before bed. Thank you.5 stars

    1. Hi June, most people substitute the almond butter for coconut oil so it would be a 1:1 substitution. But if you want to use both, maybe 1 teaspoon. Enjoy!

  91. This recipe is so delicious! I tried making this last night for myself, husband, and son. Well I ended up drinking it all myself lol. Having RA, my inflammation numbers are off the charts. I am hoping this recipe will give me some relief. I ended up digging out my small crockpot and adjusting the recipe to make enough to fill my crockpot. Not only does my house smell amazing but I have skipped my daily coffee and am sipping on warm golden milk yumminess. Thank you so much for the recipe!!!5 stars
