Use these air fried sweet potatoes for ALL the things.

I’m not kidding when I say these air fryer sweet potato cubes are a multitasker! They pair well with everything from Tex-Mex to Middle Eastern to standard American fare. Use them as an easy weeknight side dish, appetizer, or a component for other dishes. (I share lots of ideas below!)

That versatility comes thanks to the PERFECT seasoning blend. We’re talking smoky, savory, and peppery, which balances the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes. These air fryer sweet potato cubes are so irresistible, they may not even make it to your plate!

Better still, these tender little nuggets of deliciousness are ready in a flash. Roasted sweet potatoes in the oven are good but take double or even triple the cooking time. The air fryer gets it done in just 12 minutes! (Air Fryer Baked Sweet Potatoes and Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries are also faster than the oven versions.)

5 Star Review

“This was such a great way to make sweet potatoes! It was quick, easy and perfectly cooked. Love how they got a little crispy.”

Key Ingredients

You’ll find the full list of ingredients in the recipe card below, but here are some notes to keep in mind.

  • Sweet Potato. You can use traditional orange sweet potatoes or the fun purple or white ones. Orange sweet potatoes have more moisture, while other varieties tend to be starchier and a little less sweet.
  • Oil. I used extra-virgin olive oil, but you can use another oil you like for cooking.
  • Seasonings. Salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and ground black pepper make these air fryer sweet potato cubes DELISH.

How to Cook Sweet Potato Cubes in the Air Fryer

Prep. Cut the potatoes into cubes.

Season. Toss the the cubes with oil and seasonings.

Add to Air Fryer. Transfer the potatoes to the basket in an even layer.

Cook. Air fry sweet potato cubes at 400 degrees F for 12 minutes, shaking the basket at the halfway point. Season to taste with additional salt and ENJOY!

More Seasoning Ideas

  • Herbs. Add fresh or dried thyme, rosemary, or sage along with the oil, salt, and pepper.
  • Spice Blends. Swap out the smoked paprika and garlic powder for your favorite spice blends, like Cajun seasoning or taco seasoning.
  • Parmesan. After the potatoes have finished cooking, sprinkle them with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Cinnamon. Lean into the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes by seasoning them with ground cinnamon; you can also add a little bit of maple syrup to make your air fryer sweet potato cubes extra sweet.
  • Cumin. Ground cumin is a nice all-purpose option if you want your sweet potatoes to be more savory. It pairs well with Middle Eastern and Tex-Mex flavors.

Recipe Tips and Tricks

  • Cut the Potatoes to the Same Size. To ensure even cooking, make sure all your sweet potato cubes are roughly the same size. You don’t want hard, raw-tasting sweet potatoes spoiling your meal!
  • Don’t Overcrowd the Basket. Make sure you leave space in between the cubes for air to circulate so the sweet potatoes cook evenly. This is the first rule of air frying!
  • Shake the Basket Halfway Through Cooking. This helps ensure that all sides of the potatoes get crisped up evenly and delightfully. And if our sweet potatoes aren’t delightful, what are we even doing here?

Prep: 5 minutes

Total: 17 minutes

Servings: 2 -4 servings
These air fryer sweet potato cubes are ready in under 20 minutes! They're an easy side dish that's sweet, smoky, garlicky, and irresistible.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Scrub the sweet potatoes and cut into 1/2-inch cubes (peeling is optional; we leave our peels on).
  • Place in a large bowl and toss with the oil, salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  • Place in the air fryer basket and air fry at 400°F for about 12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. The potatoes should be dark in spots on the outside and tender inside; check a few minutes early just to be safe as all air fryers are different. Serve warm, with a sprinkle of salt to taste.

Notes

  • TO STORE: Refrigerate leftover air fryer sweet potato cubes in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • TO REHEAT: I recommend reheating these air fryer sweet potato cubes in the air fryer at 350ºF, but the microwave also works or you can eat them cold in salads and wraps.
  • TO FREEZE: Store in an airtight container or freezer bag for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.
