The air fryer isn’t just for Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries! Whole sweet potatoes can be cooked in an air fryer too. Like an Air Fryer Baked Potato, the skin is nicely crisp and the inside is tender, creamy, and fluffy.

You’ll also save a little time using the air fryer. Sweet potatoes take 40 to 50 minutes to bake in the air fryer at 370 degrees F, compared to 50 to 65 minutes (or longer) in the oven. (If you need a sweet potato side that’s done faster, try Air Fryer Sweet Potato Cubes.)

Finish your air fryer sweet potato with a simple pat of butter or try one of my topping ideas below!

Key Ingredients

You’ll find the full list of ingredients in the blog post below, but here are some notes to keep in mind.

  • Medium Sweet Potatoes. They should be roughly the same size AND shape to ensure that they finish cooking at the same time.
  • Olive Oil. If you plan on eating the skin, rub it with oil to make it crispy. Otherwise, you can skip it.
  • Toppings. Butter, salt and black pepper, chopped fresh herbs, cinnamon and brown sugar, are simple and delicious.

How to Cook Sweet Potatoes in the Air Fryer

Scrub and Dry the Potatoes. Dry them well if you want crispy skin! Poke the sweet potatoes with a fork so steam can escape and rub them with oil if you’re using it.

Air Fry. Cook the potatoes in the air fryer at 370 degrees F for 40 to 50 minutes, until golden brown and tender.

Serve. Cut a slit in the top, fluff with a fork, and add your favorite toppings. ENJOY!
