Sometimes, as this strawberry smoothie (and this Peach Smoothie) proves, less is more. With just 5 wholesome ingredients, it’s an easy, fruity, and perfect smoothie recipe.

  • No Fussy Ingredients. Let’s talk about those 5 ingredients! While some smoothie recipes have you searching for obscure powders and seeds, this one relies on everyday ingredients you probably have on hand in your kitchen already.
  • Satisfying Yet Healthy. Smoothies can be unexpected calorie bombs, but this strawberry smoothie is filling without loading up on the sugar and fat. It offers ample protein, vitamins, and nutrients with very little prep time.
  • An All Day Kind of Smoothie. Like my Avocado Smoothie and Blueberry Spinach Smoothie, you can serve this smoothie for breakfast, use it to refuel after a workout, or blend one up for an afternoon snack for your kids.

Key Ingredients

You’ll find the full list of ingredients in the recipe card below, but here are some notes to keep in mind.

  • Strawberries. I like to use frozen berries (be sure they don’t contain added sugar) because they make the smoothie ultra-thick. (If you love strawberries in your smoothie, try this Greek Yogurt Smoothie next!)
  • Greek Yogurt. Making your strawberry smoothie with yogurt gives it a smooth, creamy consistency and adds protein and calcium.
  • Honey + Vanilla Extract. Frozen strawberries can be pretty bland on their own. A squirt or two of honey sweetens the smoothie naturally, without making it overwhelming. The vanilla extract gives it a wonderful flavor.
  • Almond Butter. Adding nut butter to smoothies is an instant way to make them more satisfying. The healthy fats in almond butter will keep you full for longer. To make the strawberry smoothie nut-free, use sunflower seed butter.
  • Milk. Use any kind of milk you like. Personally, I make my strawberry smoothie recipes (and most others) with almond milk because I enjoy its mild taste and creamy consistency.

Substitution Tip

For an extra burst of strawberry flavor, you could use strawberry Greek yogurt. To add extra vanilla flavor, try vanilla Greek yogurt.

Or, if you prefer to make the strawberry smoothie without yogurt, you can simply omit it. Add a few banana slices as desired to make it creamier—or add a whole banana for a banana strawberry smoothie.

What About Banana?

You may have noticed the absence of a common smoothie ingredient, bananas.

I opted to make this smoothie without banana, because (wait for it) I didn’t have one on hand.

Also, while I adore bananas in smoothies (they’re naturally sweet, make the smoothie super thick, and are rich in potassium), their flavor can sometimes overtake the rest of the ingredients. I also made this Strawberry Mango Smoothie without banana.

I wanted every sip of this strawberry smoothie to taste like pure strawberry. Making it with yogurt does just that.

How to Make a Strawberry Smoothie

Get Started (photo 1). Combine all ingredients in a blender.

    Recipe Variations

    As with any smoothie recipe, this easy strawberry smoothie is ultra-versatile.

    • Get your veggies in with a few handfuls of spinach or kale (like this Strawberry Spinach Smoothie).
    • Boost it with additional protein by adding a teaspoon of flaxseeds, chia seeds, or a scoop of your favorite protein powder.
    • Add some healthy fats and extra creaminess with a scoop of avocado (or try this Apple Avocado Smoothie or this Blueberry Avocado Smoothie).
    • Pout down your straw and pick up your spoon with this Smoothie Bowl.
    • Cut the calories by reducing the amount of nut butter and using a more moderate amount of honey.

    Leftover Ideas

    • Combine all of the ingredients in a high-powered blender.
    • Blend until smooth. Enjoy immediately or place in an airtight jar (the less air, the better) and refrigerate for up to 1 day.

    Notes

    • TO STORE: Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator (the less air, then better!) for up to 1 day. Stir or shake the jar to recombine, then enjoy.
    • FOR VEGAN/DAIRY-FREE: Use non-dairy yogurt and maple syrup instead of honey. Or, leave the yogurt out and replace it with a few slices of banana for creaminess.
    • TIP: If you do not have a high-powered blender, I recommend blending the strawberries in a few at a time. Using sliced strawberries instead of whole will help. You also may need to add more almond milk and stop and stir the blender periodically to help the smoothie combine.

    1. Decided to try this for my first smoothie recipe. Looked really good. With the exception of using 1 tablespoon for the honey instead of a teaspoon I followed the recipe to a tee. I used Kraft peanut butter instead of almond butter. Looked good but the peanut butter was overpowering. It was all I could taste.1 star
