It’s the chick’n you’ve been missin’: Air Fryer Chicken Breast.

Healthy air fryer chicken breast on a plate

Seasoned outside and tender inside, this juicy chicken breast defies the (often justified) stereotypes that come along with boneless, skinless chicken breast—namely that it is rubbery, dry, bland, and something to be eaten out of an obligation to be “healthy,” versus actual craving. (No bland chicken with my Spicy Chicken Sandwich either!)

As I shared with my go-to, melt-in-your-mouth tender Baked Chicken Breast, Grilled Chicken Breast, and Baked Bone In Chicken Breast, it doesn’t have to be this way!

With one simple tip, you can transform your chicken breast into a juicy, versatile protein that is ideal for keeping on hand for fast, healthy meals throughout the week.

  • This guide will tell you how to make sure your air fryer chicken turns out juicy, not dry.
  • You can rub the chicken with any of your favorite herbs and seasonings (I’ve included my go-to blend below).
  • This is air fryer chicken with no breading (but if you prefer a crispy breading texture, try Air Fryer Fried Chicken Breast). It’s my favorite to meal prep, because it is so versatile. You can add it hot or cold to salads, wraps, sandwiches, and more.

Using the Air Fryer for Chicken

Ever since getting my air fryer a few months ago, I’ve become hooked.

An air fryer is a high-powered, countertop convection oven that blows hot air down and around the food to cook it. It’s more versatile than I expected!

You can use an air fryer to…

Since chicken breast is lean, it benefits from high-temperature baking for a shorter period of time, and the air fryer offers it in spades.

After testing a variety of temperatures, I found that 375 degrees F is the best temperature for air frying chicken.

Because the air fryer uses convection heat, you do not need to set it as high as you would an oven (in a regular oven, 425 degrees F is best for baking chicken, like Bacon Wrapped Chicken Breast).

How to Cook Juicy Chicken in the Air Fryer

My #1 secret to juicy chicken breast is brining.

Even just 30 minutes of brining can make a massive difference in your results.

Tip!

  • Brining is the process of salting meat and letting it rest prior to cooking.
  • During brining, the meat absorbs extra liquid and salt. The salt flavors the meat all the way through, so your chicken tastes completed seasoned, versus seasoned outside and bland inside. The liquid helps keep it moist.
  • You can use a wet brine (saltwater solution) or a dry brine (sprinkling the meat with salt). Personally, I prefer a dry brine because it is less messy.

My other secret to juicy chicken is DO NOT OVERCOOK THE CHICKEN BREAST. I really cannot overstate this.

If your air fryer chicken breast is dry, it is mostly likely because you overcooked it.

  • Use an inexpensive instant read thermometer to check for doneness.
  • Chicken is considered cooked at 165 degrees F.
  • I typically remove my chicken around 155 to 160 degrees F. During the resting period, the carryover cooking will bring the chicken to temperature and make it safe to eat.

How Long to Cook Chicken in the Air Fryer

The amount of time it takes to cook chicken in an air fryer will vary based on the size of your chicken breasts.

  • Small Breasts (5 to 7 ounces): 7 to 10 minutes
  • Medium Breasts (8 to 10 ounces): 10 to 12 minutes
  • Large Breasts (11 ounces or more): 12 to 16 minutes

You do need to flip the chicken halfway through cooking to ensure it cooks evenly.

Chicken Cuts

If you prefer the darker meat of chicken thighs while wanting that juicy-inside, crispy-outside texture, definitely try this Air Fryer Chicken Thighs recipe!

How to Make Air Fryer Chicken

Ready to make the melt-in-your-mouth tender chicken? Let’s do it!

The Ingredients

  • Chicken Breasts. Despite their reputation for being dry and boring, chicken breasts can truly shine when prepared correctly. Not only are these air fryer chicken breasts tender and succulent, but they’re also packed with lean protein and vitamins.
  • Olive Oil. A little olive oil helps the seasonings adhere to the chicken breasts and keeps them moist.
  • Seasoning Blend. While there are endless options for how to season your chicken breasts, my favorite mixture is paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. It’s flavorful, versatile, and delish!

Spice Things Up!

For a spicy air fryer chicken, add 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper to your seasoning blend.

Chicken Marinade

If you prefer a different flavor profile to your chicken, you could try a marinade. For a more in-depth look at the importance of marinating and the different components of a marinade, see my best-ever Chicken Marinade post and recipe.

This Chicken Thigh Marinade is another favorite that you could use to marinate the chicken in this recipe too.

The Directions

  1. Lightly pound the chicken on a cutting board.
  2. Season the chicken with salt, then refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Let the chicken come to room temperature.
Two raw pieces of meat in a bowl
  1. Stir the spice mixture together.
  2. In a bowl, combine the chicken, olive oil, and spice mixture.
Two raw pieces of meat in a basket
  1. Cook the chicken (smooth side down) at 375 degrees F for 6 minutes.
  2. Flip the chicken over. Cook for 2 to 8 more minutes. Let rest for 5 to 10 minutes, then ENJOY!

Using Frozen Chicken Breast

Yes, you put raw frozen chicken in the air fryer!

You won’t be able to brine it first or pound it to an even thickness (so the results are not *as* juicy) but if you forget to thaw your chicken, it’s a great option to have on hand.

  • To Cook Frozen Chicken Breast in the Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 360 degrees F. Drizzle the chicken with olive oil and season as desired. Spray the air fryer basket with non-stick spray then air fry the chicken for 18 to 20 minutes, flipping once halfway through.

Ways to Use Air Fryer Chicken Breast

Once you’ve made your chicken in the air fryer, here are some tasty ways to use it:

Storage Tips

  • To Store. Refrigerate chicken breasts in an airtight storage container for up to 4 days.
  • To Reheat. Gently rewarm chicken in the air fryer or oven at 350 degrees F.
  • To Freeze. Freeze leftovers in an airtight freezer-safe storage container for up to 3 months. Let thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

Leftover Ideas

Dice air fryer chicken breast to serve over your favorite green salads, like this Spinach Strawberry Salad, fold it into a wrap (like these Thai Peanut Wraps), or shred it to fold into a simple Crustless Quiche.

Air Fryer Chicken Breast

The BEST juicy air fryer chicken breast. Golden outside, moist and tender inside and seasoned to perfection. Enjoy on its own or use for meal prep.

Prep: 35 minutes
Cook: 8 minutes
Total: 48 minutes

Servings: 2 chicken breasts

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Place the chicken breasts on a cutting board and cover with a large sheet of plastic wrap. With a rolling pin, meat mallet, or your palm, lightly pound into an even thickness.
  • To Dry Brine*: Place the chicken on a plate and sprinkle all over with the kosher salt. Place in the refrigerator uncovered for at least 30 minutes or up to 1 day—if you will not be dry brining, skip this step.
  • When ready to air fry: remove the chicken from the refrigerator and let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper (if you did not dry brine the chicken, add the salt now)
  • Place the chicken in a large bowl and drizzle with the olive oil. Sprinkle the spice mixture over the top. Toss to coat the chicken, ensuring you rub the spices evenly over both sides.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees F (my model takes 3 minutes to heat). Place the chicken presentation side (smooth side) down in the air fryer and let cook 6 minutes.
  • Remove the air fryer basket, then with tongs, carefully flip the chicken over. Continue cooking until the chicken registers between 155 and 160 degrees F, 2 to 8 minutes more. Chicken is considered safe to eat at 165 degrees F, but I like to remove mine a few degrees early, then let the carryover cooking finish the job. The total cook time will vary based on your model and the size of your chicken. Smaller breasts (about 6 ounces each) will need only around 8 minutes total; larger ones may need 14 or more. Check the chicken often towards the end to monitor its progress. DO NOT overcook or it will be dry.
  • Remove the chicken to a plate. Cover and let rest 5 to 10 minutes. Slice and enjoy!

Notes

  • *While dry brining isn’t 100% mandatory (the spices, cooking temperature, and cook times listed in this recipe are still correct for the best air fryer chicken breasts), brining works magic on meat. It improves its texture (it makes it juicy, plump, and meaty, not rubbery) and its flavor, because the meat will taste more seasoned all the way through, not just on the outside. If you have time for brining, I highly recommend it.
  • This is the air fryer I used for testing. Total cook time may vary based on your model.
  • No air fryer? Make my juicy Baked Chicken Breast instead.
  • TO STORE: Refrigerate chicken breasts in an airtight storage container for up to 4 days.
  • TO REHEAT: Gently rewarm chicken in the air fryer or oven at 350 degrees F.
  • TO FREEZE: Freeze leftovers in an airtight freezer-safe storage container for up to 3 months. Let thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

    1. Hi Ramya! Since this recipe was developed for chicken breast, I can’t recommend swapping either of those ingredients. I’d suggest trying my Grilled Portobello Mushrooms or Crispy Tofu instead. I hope this helps!

      1. Oops ok i will try the mushrooms and tofu instead will dm you if i make them and let you know how it goes Thanks Ramya

  2. Oh my, Erin promised juicy chicken breast and she delivered!. The best ever! The only way to make chicken breast.5 stars

  3. I’m a big fan of the air fryer, and this recipe showed why. I do think it’s a juicer way of making chicken breast.5 stars

  4. I tried this recipe for the first time tonight and it will not be the last. The chicken was cooked perfectly and not too dry! It was so delicious, the whole family loved it! Thanks Erin!5 stars

        1. Hi Ruth! I’ve only tested this recipe with boneless chicken breast. I know others have tried bone-in with success. If you decide to experiment, let me know how it goes!

  5. This one has blown my mind. I can not get over how good this chicken is, even sliced up and cold! I’ve made it twice now and each time I should have made more for leftovers. I don’t know if it is the brine or the air fryer but the combination is insanely good and easy!!! Thanks Erin!5 stars

  6. Thank goodness for this recipe! My chicken breast whether fried, baked or air fried always came out “chewy” not tender. I followed your instructions and the chicken breast were tender and so delicious. Thank you so much!5 stars

  7. I made this chicken twice and it is awesome!! I used Montreal Chicken seasoning by Grill Mates the first time and Kickin’ Chicken by Weber the second time. I use the leftovers to make chicken salad for lunches. It is amazing!

Thanks for the great recipe!5 stars

  8. Winner…winner chicken dinner. I made the air fryer chicken bone-in without brining because we started dinner late. The chicken’s juiciness was incredible. The seasonings were spot on too. We added a salad and dinner was done. Erin, this is another awesome recipe. Sooo glad I found you🐓💖5 stars

  9. This was easy and delicious! I added to a salad and have enough leftover to enjoy all week! I will definitely make this one again.5 stars

  10. Hello, I have never brined before and never heard of a dry brine. So I have a few questions:
    1. How much salt am I supposed to use approximately per side, per breast
    2. I thought I read that with at least the water brine it is supposed to be rinsed off (?) so does this get rinsed off before adding the other seasoning because otherwise I am wondering if it would make it too salty at least on the exterior
    3. You mention 30 mins to 1 day to brine. That is a huge difference. If time is not a constraint, what is the optimal amount of time to brine or why such a huge difference listed.
    Thank you!

    1. Hi Marcia! Question 1. You are dividing the 1/2 tsp kosher salt evenly over each breast. You will need to eyeball this as you are doing it. Question 2. Yes, I believe traditionally you rinse the chicken after doing a wet brine. Question 3. Some people like to prepare their chicken ahead of time for cooking. This is the difference in the time, so those people know they can do the brine up to a day ahead. You can choose any time you’d like, that is based on preference. Hope you enjoy it!

    1. Hi Amanda! There is a section in the blog post called “How Long to Cook Chicken in the Air Fyer” This gives recommendations on weight, size and time. Hope this helps!

  11. Santa brought us an air fryer for Christmas and this was the first recipe I tried. I couldn’t be happier. Your recipe was delish. I will definitely make it a staple in our menu. Thank you!5 stars

  12. Had never brined anything but a turkey and I don’t know if it was that or the air fryer but this was an incredibly juicy and versatile chicken recipe!5 stars

    1. The ABSOLUTE best chicken breast I’ve made in my air fryer and I’ve tried many recipes!! Moist, tender & juicy. DO NOT skip the brining step. I promise will not be disappointed! Thank you for sharing5 stars

    1. Hi! I’m sorry I don’t really understand your question? How fattening? These are just boneless, skinless chicken breasts.

  13. The chicken came out sooooo very nicely. I was making it for my sons lunch. After chicken was done he said “wow I’m excited for my lunch tomorrow!!”
Thanks for the recipe. It was my first meat done in our new air fryer!!!!5 stars

  14. Okay I never comment on recipes which I suppose is a bit unfair of me apologies but it is a truth I don’t normally comment on recipes unless I have like a question about it and even then almost never. Which is a really bad introduction for this comment when really what I want to say is that for the first time in 53 years of my life I love chicken breast because of this recipe! Simple, quick, perfect and delicious – you were not kidding! Thank you!5 stars

    1. Hi Gary! This is air fried. It’s not mentioned because the air fryer I use doesn’t have all of the other settings you are referring to. All of my air fryer recipes will be cooked air fried. Hope this helps!

    1. hi! i did not have to brine but i made sure to pound the chicken to equal thickness and let them come to room temp (about 30+ mins). they were so juicy that it overflowed my cutting board as they rested; the juices flowed out of the holes where i inserted my instant read thermometer.5 stars

  15. The never ending array pop up ads is very distracting and do not give a positive impression of your web site. Why make it so hard?

    I will try the recipe.

    1. Hi Doug, I’m truly sorry for any inconvenience the ads caused you! I will certainly keep paying close attention to the number of ads and how they load, as I never want them to hinder your ability to view the recipe or the blog post. I do truly appreciate your feedback and apologize again for the inconvenience! Also there is a quick and convenient “jump to recipe” button that will help you get to the recipe faster plus a print button so you can have the recipe quickly at your fingertips. Hope this helps!

  16. Wonderful! Didn’t know chicken could be this juicy! Didn’t brine and it was still great! Agree with comments about ads.5 stars

    1. Hi Carol, so glad you enjoyed the recipe. I’m truly sorry for any inconvenience the ads caused you!

    1. Hi Mariann, I’m confused because I see it on my end. The full recipe with the measurements was right in the recipe card above the area where you commented. There is also a “jump to recipe” button at the top of the page as well to help get you to the recipe card faster. Can you please double check? Thanks!

      1. In the air-fryer-chicken-breast recipe you said, “my favorite mixture is paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.” You didn’t say how much or what proportions to use. I am 79 and just starting to learn how to cook for myself. Talk to me like you would a fifth grader. :-)
        Floyd
P.S. I looked for all the things you referred “Mariann Rhoads
March 4, 2022 at 5:56 pm” to and I could not find them either.
I couldn’t find the proportions, the reference, now the recipe card.
My chicken is thawing now so I need an answer soon. Please.

        1. Hi Floyd, the recipe card with the amounts for the ingredients is right above where you commented. Also if you hit the “jump to recipe” button at the top of the page it’s going to take you right to the recipe. Hope this helps!

  17. I made this tonight and nowhere in your recipe does it say to wash off the brine before cooking. I did the dry brine then put the seasoning on and cooked it in the air fryer. It came out way too salty. You need to revise your recipe to include this step or you will ruin your chicken.2 stars

    1. Hi Russ, it’s not necessary to wash off the brine. Did you use kosher salt as stated in the recipe?

    2. Did you add extra salt when seasoning? Because it is not included in the seasonings after. I think the amount of salt you used may have just been user error.5 stars

      1. Thank you Lola! I think the issue tends to be is that I always use kosher salt (as stated in the recipe) and most people use table salt. Table salt is a finer grain, so if using it, it’s actually way more salt then what the recipe calls for.

  18. I didn’t brine the chicken because I didn’t have time, but it still turned out incredibly tender and juicy. I will try brining the next time and I’m sure it will be even better. The spices are spot-on. I added 1 tsp smoked paprika for a smoked flavor and the color. This recipe is a keeper! Thank you very much for sharing it!5 stars

  19. Made this for a salad topping tonight. Delish! It took about 13 minutes @375’ Turned off AF but left chicken in AF closed for 5 minutes. So moist and perfect flavor. I did not brine, but I did flatten so it was all the same thickness. After dinner I instantly placed this on my Pinterest board. Loved it will make again (and probably again)!5 stars

  20. My first time ever using my new Instant Pot Duo Air Fryer was to make a couple pieces of chicken for a recipe. Wow, the chicken was amazingly juicy but with a crisp skin (it was bone-in, skin-on chicken breast half and thigh). I cooked it initially at 400 degrees since it had the bones in, 10 minutes. It wasn’t quite browned so I left it in, skin down, for another 5 minutes at 400. Perfect! Thank you for helping me have a great first effort with my IP Duo!5 stars

  21. We loved this chicken- it was so moist, flavorful and easy! The video was great!
Thank you for making my first air fryer meal a success- I can’t wait to make it again!5 stars

  22. I’m a bit nervous but have tried your other recipes with much success. I sliced my chicken length wise and pounded it. I didn’t measure the salt but sprinkled each breast on both sides. I hope it’s not too thin now and I didn’t over salt!! I will be back.5 stars

  23. This recipe made me look like a rockstar! My chicken was thin but moist and delicious. I used McCormick Monterey Grill Seasoning. Served it with Roasted Brussel Sprouts and sweet potato wedges… It was slightly salty to me but shame on me for not measuring my salt. I’m not a salt user so a slight bit can seem much to me…

    Thank you!5 stars

    1. Hi Mary! Thanks for reporting back and so glad you enjoyed it! Did you use kosher salt? You can always adjust the seasonings based on your taste! Thanks!

  24. Be careful how much salt you use for the dry brine! I sprinkled over each breast as stated and let it sit in the fridge for about 45 minutes and holy moly… this was WAY too salty (I saw another reviewer said the same thing). I saw in another comment you said to use 1/2 cup of kosher salt for the two breasts which shocked me! I think I probably used 1 Tbsp of kosher salt for each and that was way too much.

Otherwise, so delicious and juicy. Will be making again, but with far less salt/brine :)4 stars

    1. Hi Mary! That was a typo in the comment, it’s a 1/2 teaspoon as stated in the recipe. Did you use kosher salt?

  25. very rarely do i make chicken breast, unless i am grilling them, but this was a definite game changer! i followed the recipe and ended up with the juiciest results i had ever had… EVER. i did not even have to brine prior to cooking. don’t make the mistake of crowding your basket– max would be 2 breasts as a time to allow the proper air flow. follow the instructions carefully as far as bringing to room temp and pounding to equal thickness. cooked mine at 375 degrees for 13 mins, using the “turn” function on my Gourmia (7 qt. from Costco). when done cooking they temped around 155 degrees. it was incredible how the juices flowed out as they were resting on the cutting board.5 stars

  26. This is now my favorite way to make chicken. It came out so juicy and I used the dry brine method for 30 min. Thank you!5 stars

    1. Hi Lisa! All the information you need for brining the chicken for this recipe is in the recipe card instructions. If you’d like to dig a little deeper into the brining process, check out my Baked Chicken Breast post for additional information. I hope this helps!

  27. This was my first attempt at chicken in my new air fryer and it did not disappoint. I know it says not to overcook but I went in knowing I will have to play with the time. I prefer my chicken cooked really well but don’t want to dry it out. I opened the package of chicken to find an extra large and really small breast so I cut into strips after beating down so they would all be the same size or at least close to. I set the air fryer to 16 minutes. Next go round I will try 13. Thank you for the yummy, healthy, easy recipe!5 stars

  28. This was delicious. My husband and I had the chicken, different veggies. We will definitely have this again. The chicken was so moist and tender. 5 stars
Oh, BTW I’m new to Air Friers.5 stars

  29. Chicken was moist. I added bread crumbs to the mix. My air fryer did not go to 375. It was either 370 or 380…ugh. I cooked it on 370 just took longer on 2nd side. Will definitely use this again5 stars

    1. Hi Marie! So glad you enjoyed the recipe! Thank you for this kind review and thanks for the feedback!

  30. I made your seasoning recipe last time I made these and it was amazing. Tonight I used a mango seasoning for chicken and it is the bomb!!!

Going to slice up and add to spring mix salad for dinner tonight5 stars

  31. Has anyone used this recipe with the liners to make it easy for cleanup? Does it effect the texture at all?

    1. Hi Carolyn, I haven’t tried this with liners before, but one tip would be to flip your chicken a few times. Hope you enjoy it!

  32. Followed the recipe exact. It was delicious! Do you have any other dry rub recipes? Just thought I’d ask since this one was so good.5 stars

    1. Hi Von! So glad you enjoyed the recipe! Thank you for this kind review! Here are a few different recipes that include a dry rub: https://www.wellplated.com/grilled-pork-chops/ https://www.wellplated.com/air-fryer-pork-chops/ https://www.wellplated.com/baked-pork-tenderloin/

  33. When I tasted how juicy and delicious this chicken was I almost wanted to cry. Why didn’t I find out about this year’s ago?!? 30 minutes of brine time ( mind bogglingly easy to make such a huge difference!), followed the recipe and directions for cooking in my air fryer and it was the most delicious thing I’ve eaten in ages!5 stars

      1. I used smoked paprika the second time I made this and won’t switch back. It was great. Just monitor it for the smoke taste you’ll like. Thanks for the recipe, never knew about dry brining. What a difference.5 stars

        1. Hi Phil! So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for this kind review and feedback on the smoked paprika!

  34. This has become my go-to air fryer recipe for chicken breasts. Great spice mix & reliable results every time! I love to shred the breasts up, give them a rough chop, and use them in chicken salad 😊 Thanks again for this recipe.5 stars

  35. Erin,
I haven’t made your chicken recipe yet, but would like to tonight. My husband just surprised me with a large Air Fryer oven for my birthday. I used the type with the pull out compartment before, but it didn’t have enough room to cook a meal for my whole family. My question is: My new Air Fryer oven has different types of racks to use. Should I use the basket one or the sold one that’s like a sheet pan?
    Thanks, Cheri

    1. Hi Cheri, you can use either a basket or a tray. If using a tray you might have to rotate the wings some. Hope you enjoy them!

  36. I always struggle to make delicious, moist skinless chicken breast. This recipe was foolproof and outstanding. I tried the dry brine, and checked temperature as suggested. The result was moist and very tasty. 5 stars!5 stars

  37. Hello, I want to try this recipe :) You told someone in one of the comments that there is a section or link in the blog that says how long to cook different sizes of chicken breasts in the air fryer but I can’t find that section. Can you reply with a link to it? I have searched and searched and can’t even begin to figure out where it would be. Thank you so much.

  38. Never mind, I’m so sorry, I found those instructions for cooking different sizes of chicken in the air fryer – it’s on this actual page (which is what you meant by “in the blog” – I was looking around all over your website – my bad! Thanks so much!

    1. I’m sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy the recipe, Shawnna. Could you be more specific in what went wrong?

    1. Thanks Tina! I stopped including sodium info because it can vary so much depending upon what products you used, and I found a lot of conflicting info online, so ultimately I didn’t feel comfortable publishing it because sometimes it wasn’t even in the ballpark. If you’d like to calculate it yourself, there are lots of free tools online (myfitnesspal.com is popular). I hope that helps!

  39. I just have an air fryer question … which one do you have? Would you recommend it? Looking for one that is big enough for a family of five and is also a toaster oven.

  40. I never comment on recipes, but I had to because this recipe makes amazing, flavorful chicken breasts! I was starting to avoid cooking chicken breasts because of so many terrible attempts, but this recipe restored my confidence. I will be using this recipe weekly! Thank you!5 stars

  41. I prepared chicken tonight using your recipe and preparation directions and it came out beautifully – juicy and tender and delicious. I started with two fairly large chicken breasts and cooked them for 16 minutes but that was in part because I opened the lid twice in the last 5 minutes to add a little bit of bottled sauce to the tops.5 stars

  42. I was definitely a person who refusd to buy or eat chicken breasts because they were ALWAYS so dry it was hard to swallow! This recipe was amazing! I’m a convert to this method of cooking chicken breasts!5 stars

        1. Hi Sarah! I’m so confused, are you seeing somewhere where it talks about yogurt? There is no yogurt in this recipe. It’s just chicken breast and spices.

  43. have used this recipe over and over again, it is my go to, thank you so much for sharing, we work long hours and this helps us avoid fast food.5 stars

  44. My sister gave me an air fryer for Christmas and I tried out this recipe tonight. It’s so flavorful! I will definitely keep this in my rotation.5 stars

  45. It takes way longer than 8 minutes to air fry. I had to air fry my chicken breast for over 30 minutes

    1. I’m sorry to hear that you had trouble with the recipe, Christine. The method and timing has worked well for myself (and others) but I know how frustrating it can be to try a new recipe and not have it work out, so I really wish you would’ve enjoyed it!

  46. I had to make some chicken for a chicken caesar wrap because I forgot the rotisserie one I usually get. looked up how to cook air fryer. It was absolutely delicious. I didn’t believe it wouldn’t be dry and rubbery, but it was so moist and flavorful. Will save this to make again.5 stars

  47. My husband loved this chicken… I preped it just like the recipe said to and cooked it a little longer since it was a huge breast. It was beautiful on the outside and perfectly juicy on the inside. Added his fave sides, stuffing and peas and the meal was a great success! Thanks!5 stars

  48. This is my go to week night chicken recipe. It’s delicious, juicy, and super easy! Thanks for the great recipe, Erin!5 stars

  49. Best air fryer chicken recipe right here. Can use any spices really, but do everything else as is. (Especially the dry brine!) So perfect & moist. Every. Single. Time.5 stars

  50. This chicken is delicious and the recipe very easy. In previous attempts I have dried out a lot of chicken in the air fryer, but as promised this came out tender and very juicy.5 stars

  51. I use a large chicken breast and six minutes is nowhere near enough time. You gotta a double that time on each side.2 stars

    1. I’m sorry to hear that you had trouble with the recipe, Marc. The method and timing has worked well for myself (and others) but I know how frustrating it can be to try a new recipe and not have it work out, so I really wish you would’ve enjoyed it!

  52. I made this today. I’m new to cooking, new to everything lol. Just bought a house. My sister bought me a ninja air fryer. I was nervous making chicken. But everything turned out so delicious!! My daughter and husband cleaned their plate! I made this with some small baked potatoes. Thanks for the easy recipe5 stars

  53. For a college student, this recipe is so easy and convenient! Paired with some pasta it’s delicious. Thank you!!5 stars

  54. Hi Erin I cooked your recipe this evening and didn’t read instructions carefully enough. I had 2 large breasts and did the brining as recipe said left in fridge for 40 mins. Used your spice mixture and put in air fryer for 6 mins at 165 and turned them over and cooked another 6 mins. When they were finished they didn’t look cooked so I re-read your recipe and realized my mistake and cooked on 190 c for another 12 mins. To me they didn’t looked again but I gave them to my nephew who said they were the best chicken breasts he had ever tasted, better than the oven. I did have a taste and I loved the spice mixture. I will be looking to more of your recipes. Thanks Emmet from Ireland.5 stars

    1. Hi Emmet! So glad you enjoyed the recipe! Thank you for this kind review! Glad it worked for you in the end!

    1. Hi! I haven’t tried them with tenderloins but since I suggest cooking small chicken breast for 7-10 minutes I’d start off checking them around 5 minutes. If you decide to experiment, I’d love to know how it goes!

  55. I never leave reviews for recipes because I forget, but I haven’t even finished eating it, and I can’t believe how good it is! Thank you for this great recipe and great instructions. I’ve been cooking for many years but just got an air fryer, which I like even more now that I had this chicken. Thanks again!5 stars

  56. This was good except I’m not sure the the cooking times are very accurate..
Pretty large chicken breasts that I beat out and use the rest of the recipe I stated but it took about 15 minutes longer than stated4 stars

    1. Hi Sheri! So glad you enjoyed it! The cooking times have worked well for myself (and others) so not sure what happened with yours.

  57. Hi Erin – I am kind of new to cooking, as my husband has always been the cook in our house. I am learning a lot of little tips like “brining” to get a better outcome. Thank you for that GREAT tip! The first time I made this recipe I salted the chicken and put in the fridge for 30+ minutes. I did not know that I needed to rinse the salt off prior to cooking, so I made very, very, very salty tender juicy chicken breasts. (Some people need very detailed instructions) My family told me to stick to baking. 😅😅😅 Like I said, I am new to cooking. The second time I made this chicken it was amazing. My family loved it and asked how I got it so juicy! So now I bake cakes and chicken (Ha ha) I look forward to viewing more of your recipes.5 stars

  58. Wow super delicious I just used my own seasoning but still super juicy my whole family loved it and begged for seconds5 stars

  59. Absolutely love this recipe! Quick, easy, and full of great flavor! Thank you for posting this recipe!!5 stars

  60. The dry brining process made the chicken so salty I could not eat it and threw it out, awful. The chicken was juicy but way too salty.1 star

    1. I’m sorry to hear you had trouble with the recipe, Ron. Was it kosher salt that you were using? You can always adjust the salt based on your needs.

  61. This was the tastiest chicken breasts ever. I dry brined with Kosher salt for 30 minutes & also with sheet pan seasoning & olive oil. Followed all other directions and served with garlic sauce(the creamy kind). Made a rice side with sautéed onions & mushrooms . Excellent!!!!5 stars

  62. Seriously the BEST boneless/skinless chicken breast! I’ve made this twice this month. Easy to shred to make a wonderful chicken salad from the leftovers….since there are only two of us.5 stars

  63. This was the best air fryer chicken I’ve ever made! It was so juicy and just crispy enough on the outside. The seasoning mix is also delicious. I’ll be using this over and over!5 stars

  64. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t tried and tasted it! So despite 1) forgetting to flatten the chicken breast to a uniform thickness, 2) forgetting let it sit out of the frig 15 minutes after salting, and most of all 3) overcooking the poor thing in my Cosori Dual Blaze so the temperature at the thickest part was 189, that was the juiciest, most tender chicken breast I’ve ever eaten!

    Thank you!5 stars

    1. Hi Linda! I’m not familiar with an air fryer having a lid. Normally there is a basket or a door if it is a larger air fryer. I would refer to the manual for specific cooking instructions on how to use the one with a door. Hope this helps!

  65. Good is one of the most painful sites to visit while on mobile…just CONSTANTLY refreshing and reloading. Whatever you’re paying your webmaster, it’s too much.1 star

  66. I have to watch sodium intake. You mention brining and/or salting dry as well as adding into the seasoning mix.
However, your nutritional guide doesn’t list sodium at all? I’m assuming this is an oversight.
Can you please let me know what the sodium count would be based on the methods chosen
    Thank you

    1. Hi Kirk!

  67. I made this recipe tonight and my husband said it was one of the tastiest chicken dishes I had made. We watch our salt levels but it was not too salty with the brining–just right. This recipe is a keeper!5 stars

  68. Detailed directions and suggestions were very helpful. I marinated the chicken for maybe an hour. Came out very tasty.5 stars

  69. The recipe was easy to follow. The cost of one star was from the “tip” of the breast taking on a harder, strange texture from the brining step. The taste was very good. I think next time I won’t put the salt on that part of the breast.4 stars

    1. So glad you enjoyed it! Did you pound the chicken into an even thickness? If not, that might explain the difference in texture. Otherwise, you could brining it for less time next time. Hope that helps!

  70. Several times I have used this recipe and others on your website. The results are always delicious and make other people think I actually know what I’m doing in the kitchen. This is one of the best websites on any subject on the entire internet. Recipes are clearly written, not overly complicated, and not time-consuming.5 stars

  71. So good! I can’t believe an air fryer can cook chicken breasts this well! First time I haven’t overcooked chicken breasts. Follow instructions. Thank you!!!5 stars

  72. You are a natural on camera, and the timing of your recipes…which is hard to do, you make it look easy!
I happened upon ur site when yesterday I looked for air fry ‘how to’s as I’ve never used one so, just in time I got an air fryer for Christmas!
    Excellent recipe
    Easy! Thanks!

  73. Wow! I use a recipe very similar to this in the oven but wanted to try out the air fryer this time. I almost chose not to do the dry brining but I’m glad I did! The chicken turned out juicy and flavourful. Definitely going to be part of my regular rotation now. Thank you!5 stars

  74. I have tried this recipe time and time again. The results have never failed me! My chicken breasts turn out soooo juicy every single time. Thank you soooo much!5 stars

  75. Delicious, very juicy and tender, and so easy to make. I’ve made it twice now and each time cooked extra for freezing. Except for using my own spicy powder mix I followed your recipe.
You can add ‘making shredded chicken’ to your “Ways to Use Air Fryer Chicken Breast” list – it works really well.
My air fryer came with almost no instructions, and I’ve learnt lots from you over the past months. Thanks for all your delicious recipes and fab ideas, Erin!5 stars

  76. This was the best chicken I’ve ever made. It was very tender, juicy and flavorful! It was also fast and easy to make. Thank you!!5 stars

  77. Great!! My first time cooking a good and moist chicken breast! My hubs liked it. I steamed broccoli + added lemon juice, and had some white rice as sides. Sew good. I’d play around with the spices as it was tasty but a little basic. I appreciated that though, because I just wanted to make it GOOD for once, lol. Didn’t wanna get ahead of myself. Perfecto! Oh I also squeezed some lemon over the breasts, too. Tasty.5 stars

  78. Thanks for sharing, this recipe was so easy to follow, and was very juicy, however, I found the flavour blah, could have been my spices I’ve had them for awhile, so in saying that, I’ll buy new pepreka and check to see if that was the reason.

    1. Hi! It definitely worked well for us for this timing when we tested it. How long did it take for yours to cook?

  79. These were great! Juicy on the inside but cooked through. I will always make boneless skinless chicken breasts this way.
I am not a “spicy” person, so (after dry brining them) I reduced the Paprika and garlic powder by half. Perfect.5 stars

  80. I am trying to look at your recipes and it said my email and or comment was spam so I’ve been blocked. I don’t understand that. I am not spam. 🥹🌸🌷5 stars

    1. HI Antoinette! I’m so sorry you experienced that. I’m actually not sure why that is. Could you take screenshots and email us at hello@wellplated.com and we can help troubleshoot it. Thank you!

  81. Easy to follow and so quick to make. Hubby and I both loved it. I just purchased my first Ninja Foodi and so I’m new to cooking like this. Thanks for the recipe!5 stars

  82. Quick, easy and DELISH! First time using dry brine…and will probably go with that over wet brine in the future. I increased pepper to 1 teaspoon (personal preference). For me, this recipe was the most successful in producing moist air fryer chicken breasts. Will definitely be using this recipe regularly.5 stars

  83. Yay for a delicious, quick recipe. I didn’t have time to dry brine because I waited too late. I used Greek seasoning and paprika for seasoning. Well done! It disappeared from my family’s plates before I remembered to snap a picture.5 stars

  84. Have been using this recipe since day one of getting my air fryer. It is the best way to cook chicken5 stars
