Shrimp Tacos: A Quick and Easy Dinner

Every time I make a recipe with shrimp, I ask myself why I don’t cook with shrimp at least once a week.

  • Shrimp cooks in a matter of minutes, making it ideal for fast weeknight dinners (Shrimp Fajitas are another speedy winner).
  • The sautéed shrimp in these tacos cooks in fewer than five minutes, which by my calculation is just enough time to pour yourself a Skinny Margarita if you move very very quickly.
  • They’re a refreshing alternative protein. I love Shredded Chicken Tacos and Steak Tacos as much as the next person, but it’s nice to throw shrimp into the mix to keep things exciting.

How to Make the Best Shrimp Tacos

The Ingredients

  • Shrimp. While fresh shrimp are delicious, the majority of the time, I purchase raw, frozen shrimp, which are usually less expensive. Unless you live near the ocean, often the “fresh” shrimp in the grocery store case arrived frozen in the first place. Plus, you can purchase frozen shrimp already peeled, saving valuable time!

More about Using Frozen Shrimp

  • For easy shrimp taco recipes using frozen shrimp, you can thaw the shrimp in your refrigerator overnight, or if you forget (guilty!), you can quickly thaw them by running them under cool water.
  • While frozen shrimp are not the best choice if you’ll be eating shrimp cocktail, it’s perfect for recipes where the shrimp are being jazzed up with spices (hi, Shrimp Pad Thai) or fresh ingredients like garlic (check out Garlic Shrimp with Quinoa and Garlic Shrimp Pasta).
  • Spices. Chili powder, chipotle chili powder, cumin, and salt make the shrimp pop! These shrimp seasonings make the tacos smoky, earthy, and a little spicy.
  • Taco Sauce. With olive oil, garlic, jalapeño, cilantro, and fresh lime juice, this Greek yogurt sauce is cool, creamy, and zippy. The jalapeño adds a hint of spice too.
  • Slaw. Crunchy, fresh slaw mix pairs perfectly with the creamy taco sauce and smoky shrimp. No mayo here! Instead, this recipe swaps Greek yogurt.
  • Tortillas. The shell for our tacos. You can use flour or corn tortillas, so pick your favorite. Use corn tortillas if you’d like the tacos gluten free.
  • Toppings. Jazz up your tacos with avocado, chopped cilatro, chopped white onion, or other toppings of your choice.

Substitution Tip

For the slaw, I used a “super” blend of prebagged shredded cabbage, broccoli, kale, and Brussels sprouts. If you prefer your shrimp tacos with cabbage only, that is a perfectly tasty swap. For cabbage slicing tips, see Sautéed Cabbage.

The Directions

Recipe Variations

  • Grilled Shrimp Tacos. Thread the shrimp onto skewers, then cook on an outdoor or indoor grill (see this Grilled Shrimp recipe for cooking tips).
  • Shrimp Taco Bowls. Instead of a tortilla, serve your bowls with rice, or use quinoa like these Burrito Bowls do.
  • Shrimp Taco Salad. Use the shrimp instead of ground meat in this delicious Taco Salad, or add them to Mexican Salad.

What to Pair with Shrimp Tacos

Recipe Tips and Tricks

  • Do Not Overcook the Shrimp. This is the first and most important rule of cooking shrimp—they can go from underdone to tough and chewy, fast. As soon as they curl and are firm to the touch, they are ready to eat.
  • Warm Your Tortillas. This small extra step makes all the difference! You can heat the tortillas over a gas stove, in a skillet, or (in a pinch) the microwave.
  • Make the Slaw Ahead. While not mandatory, the marinating time in the fridge makes the flavors even better. Plus, you’ll love dinner coming together that much faster!

Prep: 15 minutes
Cook: 15 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

Servings: 6 to 8 tacos
The BEST shrimp tacos recipe with a creamy cilantro lime taco sauce and crunchy slaw. Juicy, spicy, and so quick and easy! Cook on the stove or grill.

Ingredients

For the Shrimp Tacos:

  • 1 pound large or jumbo shrimp peeled, deveined, and tails removed (fresh or frozen and thawed)
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil divided
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground chipotle chili pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 6 to 8 corn or flour tortillas
  • Garnishes: avocados cilantro, sour cream (or Greek yogurt), lime wedges, mango salsa

For the Slaw and Shrimp Taco Sauce:

  • 1 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic peeled
  • ½ small jalapeno seeds and membranes removed
  • ¼ cup tightly packed fresh cilantro leaves
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • Zest and juice of 1 large or 2 very small limes about 2 teaspoons zest and 3 tablespoons juice
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage or slaw mix

Instructions

  • Rinse and pat the shrimp dry, then transfer to a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with 1/2 tablespoon olive oil and sprinkle with the chili powder, chipotle chili, cumin, and salt. Toss to coat evenly. Let rest while you prepare the shrimp taco sauce and slaw.
  • Prepare the sauce and slaw: In a food processor fitted with a steel blade, process the Greek yogurt, olive oil, garlic, jalapeno, cilantro, salt, lime zest, and lime juice. Taste and adjust seasonings as desired. Place the cabbage in a mixing bowl and toss with about 1/2 cup of the sauce. Add more sauce if you desire a creamier slaw, then reserve the rest of the sauce for serving.
  • Cook the shrimp: In a large nonstick skillet over medium high, heat the remaining 1/2 tablespoon olive oil. Add the shrimp and sauté just until the shrimp is cooked through and no longer translucent in the center, about 4 minutes. Do not overcook! Transfer the shrimp immediately to a plate.
  • Warm the tortillas (optional) and assemble the tacos: If you like, warm the tortillas in the microwave (put them in a stack and cover them with a lightly damp towel) or a 250 degrees F oven while the shrimp cook. To serve, fill the tortillas with your desired number of shrimp, then top generously with the slaw, extra sauce, a squeeze of lime juice, and any other desired toppings. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • TO STORE: The shrimp tastes best the day it is made but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Slaw can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, and any extra sauce can be refrigerated for up to 5 days.
  • TO REHEAT: Since shrimp tends to dry out when reheated, I prefer to use the leftovers on top of salads. However, you can very gently rewarm the shrimp in a skillet over medium-low heat if needed.

      1. Made this recipe tonight. Enjoyed the recipe. The jalapeños gave it kick but just right. It was hit with my 13 year and 10 year old daughter. They kept telling me mama make this again and I will most definitely do so. I even made and avocado salad to go with the creamy taco slaw. BOMB! I can definitely eat the creamy sauce with tortilla chips. Everyone enjoy! I’m going fix me another one at 12:26 a.m. Blame the q.5 stars

  1. I’ll always put up with you bad jokes – even if there aren’t tacos involved. But the tacos are a nice selling point. Lol. They look amazing and so flavorful! Love the new video, too!

  2. We had some fantastic tacos yesterday for lunch at a favorite restaurant and for sure I’ll be trying these at home. We have shrimp often, but never even thought of tacos with shrimp – duh! Your videos are very helpful and I like them alot – as well as your writing. You’re very multi-talented!

    1. Chris, thank you so much for saying so! I truly appreciate it. And if my experience is any indication, shrimp in tacos will become a new favorite!

  3. We made these for dinner tonight and they were beyond amazing! Definitely keeping this recipe around. The only thing we changed was we swapped the cilantro out for parsley.
What other things could we use the sauce for? We have a decent amount leftover.5 stars

    1. Thanks so much for taking the time to review the recipe, Elysia! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I think the sauce would be great over any other Mexican/Tex Mex type dishes or casseroles, and it’d be tasty as a veggie dip or dressing for other salads too.

    2. Elysia, I’ve heard that Cilantro is something that you either love or hate. Some people say that it tastes like soap. I have done some research on Cilantro and found that it removes up to 80% of heavy metals from your body. Things like lead, mercury, cadmium and others as well. So, I can’t say if there’s any advantage to using Parsley if you don’t like Cilantro. I’ve enjoyed Cilantro for years and even more so when I found out that it has properties no one would know about.5 stars

  4. I’ve made these twice now, once with shrimp and once with cod – both were amazing. That sauce is what makes them. I threw in the whole jalapeno because I love spice and probably more cilantro than you called for, but I just used the whole bunch of what I had on hand. I will definitely be making these over and over, so simple and delicious!5 stars

    1. Woohoo! Thanks so much for taking the time to try it and report back, Meredith. I’m so glad to hear it’s a winner with cod too!

  5. Honestly I would have never ever thought to blend these ingredients together but I’m glad I did…. super good and really easy to make…… thankkkssssss for the great ideas5 stars

    1. HOORAY! I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the tacos, Traci. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave this wonderful review!

    1. Hi Hannah! I think have this noted in the blog post, but they definitely have a kick. I’d start with 1/2 the amount of spice and you can always add more. I hope you enjoy them!

    1. Hi Stefanie! Personally I love the Greek yogurt. It’s healthier and its flavor is similar to sour cream, so that’s the route I like to go. If you don’t like Greek yogurt though, I’d use sour cream. Hope you enjoy!

  6. I just made this to tonight. Absolutely loved it! I used Greek yogurt and it was perfect. 1/2 of jalapeño gave it the perfect amount of heat.

    Will make again for sure!

Thanks for the recipe. 5 stars

  7. These are the BEST! I have been making them non stop. The sauce is amazing and good on anything. I use mission restaurant style  tacos and it comes out to being one point per taco on weight watchers (if you omit the oil and use pam) and so satisfying :) I like to Top mine with pickled red onions for a bit of a tangy bite. Thank you for this amazing recipe! 5 stars

    1. Maggie, THANK YOU for taking time to leave this wonderful review. It means so much, and I am so happy you loved it!!!

  8. These have become my go-to taco recipe – I think I’ve made them 4-5 times! The leftovers are so good on a salad!5 stars

  9. This was delicious! Thank you for a great recipe and I loved the crunchy slaw with the smooth sauce. It was very flavorful and fun! Will definitely make again.5 stars

  10. I made this for supper tonight and it was amazing!  My husband just raved about how fresh and light it was.  He wants it on the menu often and said it goes on our serve to company list!  Thanks!5 stars

  11. These were beyond delicious!  Even my two year old ate them (I did add some cheese to his lol).  I love how quick and easy they were to make, too.  I’m 36 weeks pregnant and these are going in my arsenal of recipes of what to make when I have a newborn and a toddler running around!  5 stars

  12. Just made this for dinner. I added a slice of avocado on top and some pico de gallo.  So delicious! Thanks again for another great, healthy recipe. 5 stars

  13. Made these tonight and they were amazing! The combination of flavors was right on. My whole family voted them into the dinner rotation! Well done and each taco was only 4 FP in Weight Watchers!5 stars

  14. This was great! So much flavor with just the right amount of spice. I ended up adding a little bit of white rice with some lime and cilantro to the tortilla, then put on the greens, then the shrimp. I added some avocado, more cilantro, the leftover sauce, a squirt of lime juice, and some feta cheese. I used wheat tortillas to keep it on the healthy side. Everything was so good, my husband and I devoured it in record time! Definitely going in the regular rotation!! Thank you!!5 stars

    1. Laurie, I am so happy this hit the spot for you both and will be a go-to! Thank you for letting me know and sharing this lovely review!

  15. Fantastic recipe! Better than any restaurant tacos we’ve had. I grilled the shrimp instead of pan fry, but otherwise kept it all the same. Thank you so much for this easy and delicious dish.5 stars

  16. I just made these for dinner last night and they were amazing! I will be making these again and again, thank you!5 stars

    1. Abby, this makes me so happy to hear! Thanks for letting me know and taking time to leave this fabulous review!! It means a lot.

  17. My family loved this-the slaw was delicious and easy! Would be good on fish tacos, too. I’ll be making this again5 stars

  18. I loved this recipe! I grabbed the wrong Greek yogurt at the store (vanilla bean) and realized it would’ve been too sweet. I substituted the yogurt with two egg white and olive oil and it was just as good and didn’t even need the yogurt! I’m sure the yogurt would’ve given it a more tangy taste but I added extra Lime and it balanced it out! 5 stars

  19. Having never really been a shrimp fan, this recipe was a game changer. Loved these tacos! And the creamy slaw! I spiced up the dressing with a whole jalapeno (with the seeds) and it was so good. Glad I have more frozen shrimp so I can make these again soon!5 stars

  20. Wow – these are so amazing. I plan to make these part of my regular rotation. I don’t love cilantro so left the slaw dressing for each person to put on their own tacos and worked out perfectly – especially when my husband decided to use it as a dip for potato chips ;)5 stars

  21. Hey y’all. Currently doing the whole 30 cleanse! This is a great recipe. All you have to do to stay compliant, is swap the greek yogurt for unsweetened coconut milk yougurt. I’ve done this recipe 5-6 times now, and it rocks. 5 stars

  22. I made these tonight! Even my picky hubby said the recipe is a “keeper!” The sauce is delicious! We added extra cilantro. No such thing as too much cilantro!

    1. Hi Kristen, I haven’t tried a mayo version myself. If you decide to swap it, note that the flavor will be a little different and the nutrition estimate will change. I hope you enjoy!

  23. These were wonderful! I added some corn starch to the spice mix for the shrimp, which meant that they got beautifully golden brown and crispy when we cooked them up. We’ll definitely be making these again!5 stars

  24. Hi Erin, thank you for this recipe. I added ripe avocado to the sauce and it blended perfectly. So delicious! My kids loved these tacos!5 stars

  25. SWEET BABY JESUS THESE WERE DELICIOUS! Followed the exact recipe and it did not disappoint! My husband and I were craving shrimp tacos from our favorite spot back home and I have to say these are now our new favorite! I went ahead and paired it with cilantro lime rice. Thank you so much great recipe I look forward to sharing!5 stars

  26. Delicious! ?
The family loved it.  I’m definitely putting this on rotation.
The only switch I made was using Kefir instead of Greek yogurt – I used what I had on hand and it still tasted great.
Glad to have found this recipe.
    Thanks5 stars

  27. Hi Erin, We made these last evening for dinner! They were light and fresh with a kick from the jalapeno. Overall they are very tasty. Definitely will be keeping this recipe and making them again. 5 stars

        1. Hi Brent! I’m sorry to hear that these were too spicy for you. Next time, you can certainly reduce the amount of spices to make them less spicy. I hope you enjoyed the recipe otherwise!

  28. Hi, Erin!

I wanted to let you know that I made this recipe last night for dinner and it was insanely DELICIOUS. Instead of using a flour tortilla, I used a sprouted grain Brooklyn Bread Lavash Roll-Up. My husband and I are sticking to whole grains for weight loss and this was a very filling dinner. I am attaching the link for the bread! One wrap has only 100 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 4 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein.

    Lavash Roll-Ups

Thank you for the excellent recipe!
    Warm Regards, Jenny Fisher5 stars

  29. This dish has become a weekly favorite meal. Its fast, tasty and healthy and has contributed to successful weight loss!5 stars

  30. Great recipe! I wanted to add more creaminess so I added an avocado and a tablespoon of mayo. Absolutely delicious!5 stars

  31. Hi Erin! This is the first time I have ever commented on a recipe – that’s how good these are!!!! My husband had a stroke last year and we have been plant-based ever since. Over the last few months very limited dairy and seafood have made their way back into our diet, but we are still committed to a predominately plant-based life!
Having said all that, these were amazing!! Thank you, thank you for helping us find food that does not leave us feeling deprived – food we can be excited about!
Thanks again – we’ll be back for more recipes.?5 stars

    1. Allison, comments like this make my heart glow. I’m so pleased (and flattered!) that my recipes have become a part of your routine. Thank you for sharing this lovely review and my best to you both!

  32. “Is this a monster taco or what?” That made me laugh out loud. The only thing would change is to use corn tortillas. Great recipe otherwise, especially the generous use of lime and cilantro. Bright citrus and fresh herbs make it easy to eat healthy because they impart so much flavor.5 stars

  33. Me and my partner LOVED this recipe! Definitely will need to double up on the shrimp next time, absolutely 0 leftovers. Thank you so much for sharing this!!5 stars

  34. I made this recipe for my work Cinco De Mayo party. And it was a huge hit. I’m glad I made extra cause I couldn’t stop eating it before the party. Also was a hit with my bf. Fresh new[6 month] relationship and I hadn’t cooked for him yet cause he kept going on about how great his sister cooks so it made me nervous to cook for him, but he loved it so I’m happy. Thanks for this recipe.5 stars

  35. Made these yesterday and they were pretty good! I garnished with red onion and sriracha as I thought it needed some “zing” and my bf added some thinly sliced jalapeño.  I appreciate the lightness with the Greek yogurt as the dressing. 5 stars

  36. hey !! can I am dairy free (except eggs) was wondering if I could use anything other than the greek yogurt as a substitute?

Thanks cant wait to try this!

    1. Hi Jessica! I haven’t tried a substitute myself, but you could try a plain, unsweetened nondairy yogurt. You could also try mayonnaise, which is usually the standard in slaw recipes (just less healthy than yogurt—if trying this, I would start with a lesser amount).

  37. These are just incredible.  I’ve made them with shrimp, Mahi and cod.  Same cooking method.  The seasoning gives it some zip and the topping cools it down just enough. The pair together are heavenly.  Even though I am also a taco and anything Mexican lover, I cannot stomach cilantro believe it or not!  I put in some freshly dried chives and dried parsley and just hit this sauce “over the wall”. Even Hispanics I feel would love this sauce.  Well done. You outdid yourself on this one. It may also serve well as a nice dipping sauce.  Thx for sharing, Erin. 5 stars

  38. Hands down the best shrimp recipe out there! Tastes fresh and flavorful. My boyfriend loved these and said the shrimp spices were amazing. I found the Greek yogurt sauce had a bit too much liquid I like a thicker sauce so not sure if you have any tips for that. We used corn tortillas and a whole jalapeño for the sauce. This will definitely be a staple in our house. Thank you for the recipe!5 stars

    1. Hi Rebecca! I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the shrimp. As for the slaw, mine came out fairly thick (you can see in the photos that it stays where it lands and isn’t too runny), but you could use a little less lime juice or a little more yogurt. I hope that helps!

  39. These are spectacular! Everything is bursting with flavor, shrimp, coleslaw, lime dressing, don’t know what tastes better. My son doesn’t like slaw, and he didn’t care much for the lime dressing when he first tried it. But once I assembled his taco with everything on it he couldn’t stop eating it. He loved it. This will definitely become one of our favorites5 stars

    1. Hi Darci! You can certainly make this sauce the night before and store it in the refrigerator until serving. I suggest giving it a good stir before serving as well. I hope you love the recipe!

  40. It was ok. Separately no thank you but together it had potential. Something was missing. I ran the recipe thru a couple of cooks and although it should have been bursting with flavor it just wasn’t there for me. Any other suggestions or substitutions?

    1. Hi Jade! I’m sorry to hear that this recipe fell short for you. I (like many readers) have had great success with this dish, so I’m not sure what might’ve gone wrong without being in the kitchen with you. You could experiment by adding more of the spices for additional flavor. I hope you enjoy it if you try the recipe again!

  41. Love this recipe…my son developed a “sensitivity” to shrimp; could I swap the shrimp with tilapia for him?
    Thanks ,
    Wendy5 stars

    1. Hi Wendy, I’m so happy that you love this recipe! I have not tried the recipe this way, but you could experiment with the swap. If you try it, I’d love to hear how it goes!

  42. I’m eating these as we speak and they’re so good that I had to take a break in between tacos to leave a review. I marinated my shrimp for 24 hours and the seasonings in the marinade were perfect. Also the Greek yogurt and lime juice really make the slaw!
A local sports bar makes something similar only their shrimp are breaded and their slaw isn’t this delicious. So happy to have found this recipe!5 stars

  43. I just made this for my daughter and I for dinner, my husband plays ice hockey on Thursday nights and doesn’t care for shrimp so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to try this recipe since he won’t eat before a game.  Well he hasn’t left yet and I just told him to take a bite.  He ate the whole thing!!  And before a hockey game, which says a lot!  I can’t tell you how amazing this recipe is.  I didn’t change a thing.  So good!  Thank you :). 5 stars

    1. I’m so happy to hear that this recipe was a hit with all of you, Debbie! Thank you for taking the time to share this kind review!

  44. Very good. 1st time making them. But love them from restaurants. And this recipe was one of the best I’ve had! The slaw and that sauce really make it. I had to do a little adjusting because I didn’t have any chipotle. So I added paprika instead. I also added a little bit of sliced red onion to the slaw. And a little bit of pico de galo as a garnish and sliced avocado. I could eat them everyday! Very filling but light.5 stars

  45. I didn’t have exactly what I needed even though I thought I did.  Must have the chili powder, but it still turned out great.  Love it and so does the family!5 stars

  46. We love this recipe so much, the cilantro sauce is perfect!!!, question, can I use the whole cilantro instead the leaves only?5 stars

    1. Hi Claudia! I’ve never tried using more than the leaves in this recipe, so it would be an experiment. If you decide to try it, I’d love to hear how it goes!

    1. Hi Marilee! While I haven’t tried it, another reader let her shrimp marinade for 24 hours before cooking and said the spices were perfect. I hope you enjoy the recipe if you try it!

  47. Made these for dinner last night. Substituted ready-to-use broccoli slaw so I didn’t have to cut/shred and garnished with avocado. Sooo good! Definitely made more sauce than I needed but I think it will be good as a veggie dip or drizzled on my salad for lunch today. Have some leftover shrimp to add to my lunch, too. Easy and yummy without the guilt. Will make again!5 stars

    1. I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed the recipe, Brooke! Thank you for sharing this kind review!

        1. Hi Priya! It’s so hard for me to say what might have gone wrong without being in the kitchen with you. I hope you still enjoyed the recipe!

  48. My husband and son do not like cilantro so I used basil and flat leaf parsley instead. They loved it!! Fresh, spicy, light…it was awesome!!5 stars

    1. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the recipe, Lynn! Thank you for sharing this kind review!

  49. I’ve made this recipe 2 times in the last 2 weeks, and making it again tonight. Everyone loves them. Thanks for the great recipe!5 stars

  50. Thanks for helping me make awesome tacos! Your instructions are very clear and basic enough for me (a non chef) to follow. Look forward to making more recipes!5 stars

  51. My 15 year old daughter and I tackled this dinner together. We had a great time cooking. The family loved the tacos. Each bite was bursting with fresh, healthy flavors! Thanks for helping bring smiles to our family tonight. 5 stars

  52. My first time preparing shrimp, this dish was amazing. I substituted the cumin with tumeric and left off the tortillas. Very easy to prepare! Highly recommend.5 stars

  53. Wow this is my second time making these! I substituted the greek yogurt with sour cream and they came out good as well :) 2 shrimp tacos and I’m already full, these are so easy + I already had most of the ingredients at home

    10/10!5 stars

  54. These look delicious! Could I sub out chicken or something else for some of the shrimp? My husband loves the shrimp but I have one other in cooking for who doesn’t like seafood. Any reccomendations?5 stars

    1. Hi Julie! I’ve only tested this recipe with shrimp, so it would be an experiment. Heads up that the chicken will take longer to cook than the shrimp. You could also check out my other Mexican recipes to see if there’s a non-seafood taco recipe that sounds tasty!

  55. Excellent and super easy! I made the slaw dressing in my food processor then stirred it into 3 cups of bagged slaw mix. I put a scoop of slaw on every taco and my kids gobbled them up :-)5 stars

  56. I am so happy I stumbled across Erin’s recipe in a Google search for the best shrimp taco recipe. The ground chipotle chili really brings this recipe home and taste exactly like shrimp tacos I order from my local taco joint… or dare I say better? Always a crowd pleaser in our house and a regular in the rotation. Just try it already!5 stars

  57. Wow, these are just so darned good. Instructions were clear (loved the accompanying video) and the results were perfect. But it’s the slaw recipe that has completely changed my taco life for the better. Thanks Erin!5 stars

  58. Kids and hubby wiped it all – one of the best recipes for shrimp taco. Period. The taco sauce and the slaw OMG – after dinner the dance of mild flavors in my mouth – LOVED it. My son wants me to make this every week. I feel my kitchen just discovered a new spice – I didn’t know Chipotle chili is a thing – this brilliantly added the shabang….lol.5 stars

  59. The easiest and freshest dish I’ve made all winter. My picky husband devoured 5 tacos, now we don’t have any leftovers. I will be adding these to our Taco Tuesday Nights!5 stars

  60. Loved the recipe and the spice! I left out the cilantro (not a fan) but it didn’t diminish the tasty slaw or sauce. The family gave it two ??.5 stars

  61. There’s potential here. It could be totally awesome with only half the cilantro. It totally dominated the taste of the slaw, and over powered the taste of everything else. All I tasted was cilantro. I could have used half or even less than half and the recipe would have not have missed it. Other than that, they were great.

Note: I marinated the shrimp in a single serving cup of plain Greek yogurt with all of the spices mixed in and then sautéed it over medium high heat. Made the shrimp even more awesome than just dry tossing them in spice. My opinion.3 stars

  62. Soooo delicious… The heat and coolness of the combination of spices. I used whole wheat tortillas. I am sharing this recipe and I will be making again. Thanks Erin5 stars

  63. Best shrimp tacos ever! Slaw and creamy dressing superb. My only problem is I made a half recipe because it’s just my husband and I, think we could have eaten the whole recipe!5 stars

  64. Didn’t mean to delete the video for the shrimp tacos with creamy slaw. Is there a way to retrieve it ?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

    1. Hi Susan! You can still watch the video in the post itself, or you can refresh the page, and the video on the side will pop up again. I hope this helps!

  65. Still cannot get the video to return, even though I refreshed the page. The video doesn’t “pop up”.
BTW, we LOVED the creamy slaw with shrimp !! We will make it again. The video just helped me to follow what to do first, etc. . Thanks, Erin !5 stars

  66. Absolutely delicious! I’ve made these a few times following recipe exactly. This time I added 1/2 tsp of cajun seasoning to the slaw to give it a cajun twist. It was a big hit!5 stars

  67. This recipe was a great find for a Friday night. Used a broccoli slaw mix and my bf and I ate up every bite. May have to put the crema on some other things bc it’s soooo good (and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t usually care much for cilantro!).

For all you spicy fans, I added an entire jalapeño and serrano but the Greek yogurt seemed to bind the capsaicin. Added fresh jalapeño on top at the end and some ghost pepper powder for good measure!

    Thank you!!5 stars

  68. This recipe looks so good. I can’t eat dairy and the non-dairy yogurts I have tried taste terrible. Any ideas? Thanks.

  69. Yay, I have a go-to shrimp recipe now! I tried my hand at cooking shrimp for the first time a couple weeks ago and was unimpressed. But my husband and I agreed this recipe’s a keeper! The shrimp was flavorful! I couldn’t find chipotle chili, so I used smoked paprika. For slaw, I sliced red cabbage and some raw broccoli very thin. I subbed poblano pepper for the jalapeno because I’m a spice wimp. I adore lime and used fresh squeezed juice but omitted the zest because my husband has a citrus allergy. I don’t usually love cilantro, but everything in the sauce just came together really well! I’m so excited to have a new recipe with ingredients I don’t normally use (shrimp, cabbage) but that are easy to find and healthy! Thank you!!5 stars

  70. These were great. I followed the recipes as they were written. The sauce is out of this world and I will be making that again. thanks. We loved them.5 stars

  71. With all the good reviews I expected this to be great. The way the shrimp are prepared is good and I would do again. The taco sauce that is used on the slaw and tacos was not very good. When everything was put together into a taco it was nothing special. I rarely throw food out but the remaining taco sauce and slaw was discarded.1 star

    1. I’m sorry to hear that this recipe fell short for you, Joseph. I (like many readers) have had great success with this dish, so I truly wish it would’ve been a hit for you too!

  72. Any suggestions for a cilantro substitute? I can’t stand it– parsley perhaps, or just leave it out with no subs?

    1. Hi! While I haven’t tried it myself, other readers have reported success with swapping in parsley. I hope this helps!

    1. I’m so happy that you enjoyed the recipe, Amanda! Thank you for sharing this kind review!

  73. This recipe is absolutely incredible! Followed it exactly and the tacos turned out amazing! Hubby and I loved them. Thanks for this gem! 🤗💕5 stars

  74. Hi Erin,

Looking forward to making this as I’ve enjoyed all of your recipes that I’ve tried. However, I don’t have a food processor. Is there a way to make the slaw without one? Or is there a substitute sauce I could use for the slaw? Thanks!

    1. Hi Lynne! While I’ve only made the dressing in a food processor, I think you could try using a high-powered blender instead. The sauce may not be quite as smooth, but it should still be delicious. I hope you enjoy the recipe!

  75. Thank you for the recipe. The shrimp seasoning was delicious however the sauce was too sour either because of the Greek yogurt or too much lime juice even though I added less than in the recipe. My husband said he would have enjoyed it better with sour cream instead of Greek yogurt however I do like that this is a healthier alternative.4 stars

  76. These were fantastic! I have been craving shrimp tacos that would stand on their own without cilantro and these did! I am a very picky eater so it’s a big deal when I find something I really love!5 stars

  77. Delicious! Made a brocolli, carrot, apple slaw as that’s what I had. Topped with avocado and pico de gallo . so yummy! The yogurt lime dressing is so tasty.5 stars

  78. It took longer to finish the recipe then the tacos last at a party 🎉!! They were amazing!!5 stars

  79. We all agreed this was the BEST shrimp taco recipe we’ve ever had! The chipotle along with the chili powder gives the shrimp the perfect amount of heat! We also sautéed them in an olive oil that had a chile pepper infused flavoring. We used Greek yogurt in the slaw recipe and your sauce/slaw was wonderful! We used an immersion/stick blender to mix the sauce instead of a food processor, and it worked great. The sauce/slaw recipe’s jalepeno & cilantro combined with all of that fresh lime juice was top quality. We warmed the corn tortillas over our gas burner flame. SO GOOD! Can’t wait to make this again!5 stars

    1. Hi LiAnn! So glad you enjoyed the tacos and thank you for the feedback! Thank you for this kind review!

  80. I am loving this site! I’m so glad I found it – I also bought the cookbook.

    On to the review…

I made this last night and it was a hit! We are vacationing with fewer shopping options, so I used very good frozen shrimp – I agree that fresh isn’t necessary for this recipe. The sauce is good – I forgot to buy Greek yogurt, but had leftover low-fat sour cream, which worked well. I also forgot to buy a jalapeño, so I used about 1/2 teaspoon of canned green chilis, which totally worked. I found a bag of Asian salad at the grocery store – which, if you toss the soy dressing pack and the sesame seeds, is essentially just mixed kale and cabbage salad – so perfect for this!

Great recipe – my kids and husband loved it. One is the things I love about it is everyone can customize their tacos to their taste. I’m watching calories, so I skipped the tortilla. My younger son is trying to put on weight, so he loaded his up. This is perfect for family dinners!5 stars

  81. I don’t think we’ll ever be able to order shrimp tacos out again! These were so gosh-darn delicious. We enjoyed the bit of heat from the shrimp seasoning and the refreshing coolness of the sauce was a perfect balance. This will be our new favorite! Thank you for sharing!5 stars

  82. I made this for dinner last night and it was really tasty! The slaw was cooling and refreshing and overall a very healthy and filling dinner. I also had a pineapple pico on hand that I put on the tacos…great combo with the slaw and spicy shrimps!5 stars

  83. Loved this recipe! I used non-dairy greek yogurt for the sauce and it came out excellent. Will definitely be making this again.5 stars

  84. Made this and the shrimp was amazing and a seasoned great. Followed the recipe for the slaw and dressing was watery and really no flavor. Other wise we loved the tacos .3 stars

    1. I’m sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy the recipe, Dawn. Many other readers have tried it and loved it, but I know everyone has different tastes. I truly wish you would have loved it!

  85. Just made the sauce…..very very tasty and fresh tasting just as is! My wife loved it, but I wanted it a little sweeter so I made a few adjustments to suit my tastes….so I made another batch. She’s keeping the first one, her new favorite. For my batch, I added 1 more clove of garlic, 1/2 tsp of ground cumin, another 1/4 tsp of salt, and 1 tbsp of honey…that did it for me!
We’re making your taco recipe tomorrow and wanted to let the flavors of the sauce develop overnight. We also are going to have grilled peaches with it now….just so we can use more sauce :)
Oh, and the consistency of the sauce is perfect, not too thick but thick enough to cling where you put it…Thank you for the recipe…..so good… (sorry I modified it for me, don’t be offended)5 stars

  86. Good but messy. Sauce was too runny. Would use iceberg lettuce instead of cabbage next time. Avocado would have gone well with it but did not have any.4 stars

    1. Hi Tara! I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the shrimp. As for the slaw, mine came out fairly thick (you can see in the photos that it stays where it lands and isn’t too runny), but you could use a little less lime juice or a little more yogurt. I hope that helps!

  87. Wow! So flavorful and easy!
Just the right amount of spices and tang from the lime. Will definitely be on rotation at our house!5 stars

  88. I made this for my family and got a request for an “encore”. They want it again for tomorrow’s dinner!! Definitely will be making this again! Absolutely delicious.5 stars

  89. Making this now for the 3rd time tonight, this time for guests. Rave reviews from family each time I have made this! Last 2 times I made it I did not have Greek yogurt (used sour cream) nor cabbage (used a bagged broccoli slaw mix) but still terrific! Still sticking w/the sour cream tonight but trying the slaw recipe as written otherwise.
This is hands-down the best shrimp taco recipe ever. I could eat the crema with a spoon (and I have). If anyone reading this is on the fence…just try it! It is a quick and tasty dinner. Thank you so much for this amazing recipe.5 stars

    1. Outstanding!! My husband returned from Miami where he had excellent shrimp tacos. I searched for the best recipe, found yours and adapted to suit his taste. I made a separate coleslaw and put a bed of shredded cilantro and lettuce down as the base. The shrimp was excellent with all that spice and quick to cook. That sauce that goes on top is so fresh and tangy! It’s the finishing touch. I will definitely make this again. Thank you! Btw, he put the coleslaw on top of the taco anyway😉5 stars

  90. We had this tonight and we both loved it! It was super easy and fast to throw together, and the flavor profile delivered on all fronts. We will definitely be making this again. Thank you for a fast, easy, weeknight recipe!5 stars

  91. The slaw really makes this dish amazing. I made it two ways: for my boyfriend I made them with shrimp and flour tortillas, and for me (a vegetarian) I used plant based crispy “fish” fillets with corn tortillas, Baja fish taco style. We both enjoyed them immensely!!5 stars

    1. I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy this dish, Darryl. I understand that tastes differ. I know it’s disappointing to try a new recipe and not have it work out, so I am sorry that happened here!

  92. These were SO GOOD. The only change I made was leaving out the jalapeños in the sauce because my husband doesn’t like things too spicy. The slaw and sauce perfectly balanced out the shrimp. I made a double batch and the leftovers were just as good for lunch the following day. Definitely making these regularly.5 stars

  93. A lot 0f work for some flavorless shrimp tacos. If I’m going to zest, chop, squeeze, blend and fry; I want it to be worth it and this is NOT. Don’t waste your time.

    1. I’m sorry to hear the recipe wasn’t to your taste, Guy. I know it’s disappointing to try a new recipe and not enjoy it, so I truly wish it would have been a hit for you.

  94. My first time I made the shrimp tacos,,,what a hit,,,my company couldn’t get enough, absolutely delicious, I will definitely make again.
    jp5 stars

    1. Hi Kristi! I’ve only refrigerated it but haven’t tried freezing it before. If you decide to experiment, let me know how it goes!

  95. What took me so long to make these again!!! Followed the recipe and served with the coleslaw on the tacos this time. Love radishes as a side. Used corn tortillas since we prefer that flavor combination. I shared this recipe with my sister and you got rave reviews from everyone. Just the right amount of spice on those shrimp. Think I like sour cream vs. Greek yogurt, or maybe a combination. I swear We could eat eat these every week!! Thank you for an over the top recipe5 stars

  96. This was easy and delicious. Love the balance of spices and garlicky creamy sauce. The sauce takes a little time but it’s worth it. I saved the extra and used it to drizzle over chicken and rice.5 stars

  97. This the best shrimp taco I’ve ever had. The shrimp seasoning and sauce were fantastic. My family and I absolutely loved this…everyone cleaned their plates! We will definitely be making this more often. Thank you so much for sharing!!5 stars

  98. Excellent tacos. I found that the sauce could have been reduced by half. We didn’t need to drizzle it on the tacos because our slaw was plenty “wet”. So there was a lot left over. Next time I plan to only use only 1/4 tsp of the chipotle pepper seasoning. Using a full tsp make the recipe so hot that I couldn’t taste the shrimp, even though I love spicy. I left out the cilantro because we don’t like it and the sauce was still very tasty.5 stars

  99. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!!!!!!!! These are amazing!!! Seriously the most amazing shrimp tacos ever. I can’t find ground chipotle chili at any store around me so I just add a tiny bit extra chili powder. Amazing!! My kids and husband love them. They are so addictive. We normally eat them at 2 different meals so that we can use up all the slaw and sauce……I cook shrimp fresh each time.5 stars

  100. I made this tonight for dinner. I made a few additions to the spice mixture for the shrimp and omitted the jalapeños on the slaw since I was feeding kids. But this was an incredibly easy and tasty dinner! This is something that will definitely be in rotation for dinner from now on. Thank you for this recipe!5 stars

  101. This was a great recipe. Came out delicious. I didn’t change a thing. Will definitely use this again. Thanks so much!5 stars

  102. These are the most DELICIOUS shrimp tacos my family and I have had in a long time. Best perk of this recipe? It is short and easy!! It took me max 30 minutes to get this together. The sauce tastes AMAZING!! thanks for sharing Erin. 🙂👏5 stars

  103. Hello! Does your nutrition break down consist of a flour tortilla or a corn tortilla?

    Thank you!

  104. This was so delicious and easy! My friend and I made it as college students one weekend, so it’s definitely affordable as long as you already have shrimp, you don’t even need the food processor if you mince everything.
We found that for the creamy slaw you can also use non dairy yoghurt as long as it is a similar consistency to greek yoghurt.
We added some mango and fresh sliced radish which paired perfectly with the shrimp!5 stars

  105. These are AMAZING! My guests all went back for 2nds. This is my new favorite taco recipe. I could eat a whole plate of the slaw.5 stars

  106. I like the recipes and find them easy and quick to make. However, I think the video’s background music is annoying—everything else I love.

    1. Glad to hear you like the recipe Maureen, I’m sorry about the music. Simple click the mute button on the video players and it won’t be able to hear it anymore. Hope this helps!

  107. Hello,
I made this for my husband and I last night and we loved it!! Super flavorful with a little zing.
I bought a small head of iceberg to chop for the slaw and added some shredded carrot, and I
Used jalapeño powder which added a good amount of spice. Super easy dinner, especially if you buy fully prepared fresh shrimp cocktail and add seasonings then gently heat on stovetop5 stars

  108. This came out so FIRE! This was also my first time EVER having shrimp tacos! Hands down so freaking fresh, delicious, and healthy, needless to say! This will be go to now, and will be sharing this recipe to my friends and family!
Thanks for sharing this delicious recipe!5 stars

  109. Making these yet again…tonight grand daughters friends are joining us….all ten of them. This recipe is a fast favorite of everyone we’ve ever served it to,

  110. I made these last night and wow, the layers of flavor in these shrimp tacos are incredible! Erin, I so appreciate your healthy spin on dishes. I followed this recipe but added an adobo crema to drizzle over the top and some habanero pickled red onions. Really superb. It will become a regular here!5 stars

  111. Hi Erin. I’m a big fan of your recipes and I’d love to try this one but I don’t like cilantro. Do you think I could swap it for parsley? Thanks so much!

  112. Just delicious and so easy. Had leftover sauce and a leftover air fried chicken breast
So we had that the next night. Also delish. Thanks so much.5 stars

  113. Made these tonight and they were delicious! My avocados weren’t ripe, so I’ll be making them again later. The slaw is just the right amount of spicy!5 stars

  114. This recipe is amazing, the shrimp is perfectly spiced and the sauce and slaw is delicious. I have made this several times and we love it!5 stars

  115. Had an unusually warm spring day, so decided to try grilling shrimp for the first time! I probably overcooked them a bit, but overall it turned out very good! I started using Greek yogurt instead of mayo in my slaws last year and love to see it in recipes. Do recommend!5 stars

  116. We actually used chicken thigh instead of shrimp and it was still delicious – the sauce is incredible too.5 stars

    1. Hi Sophie! So glad you enjoyed the recipe! Thank you for this kind review and feedback on the chicken thighs!

  117. My husband and I loved the tacos. I used the air fryer for the shrimp-the spices were wonderful. Quick and easy!5 stars

    1. Hi Mike! If you mean for the cooking challenge, all you need to do it make it then leave a review! That’s it! It’s up to you how you’d like to serve it! Enjoy!

  118. This recipe is so quick, easy and DELICIOUS! It is now in our regular dinner rotation. I mix the sauce by hand and use Trader Joe’s Organic Shredded Green & Red Cabbage with carrots for the slaw. Last night I served it to guests with guacamole and roasted beets with fresh orange vinaigrette. Everyone loved it. Thanks for a great recipe!5 stars

  119. I’ve made this multiple times. It’s one of our favorites! When it came up as the April Cooking Challenge, it was a no-brainer. Love the slaw in this and how it marries with the moderately spicy shrimp. Easy and tasty. I didn’t use cilantro (wife isn’t a fan) and added a little tomato. Otherwise, stayed pretty true to the recipe.5 stars

  120. I made this for my wife and it was so good she only let me have ONE BITE! It was easy to prep and fast to cook. Next time I guess I’ll have to make enough for both of us.5 stars

  121. These tacos have the perfect amount of heat and a nice mix of textures with the crunch of the slaw and the creamy sauce. We love them!5 stars

  122. Delicious- made it for dinner last night! Even my daughter liked them. I’d even make the shrimp by itself it was so so good :)5 stars

  123. Great, quick dinner recipe! I left the seeds in the jalapeño for a little extra kick. I’m not a fan of mayo, so really appreciate that this recipes uses Greek yogurt for the sauce. The slaw was a perfect complement to the shrimp. Thanks for the great recipe.5 stars

  124. Loved these. Made them for dinner last night and the whole family said it was definitely a “make again”!5 stars

  125. Super delicious, quick and easy. Used pre-chopped veg to speed things up. The tacos were well appreciated by all! I cooked the shrimp in 2 batches to control spice level for our less-adventurous and the the “bring the heat” crew. 🙂5 stars

  126. This was so good! I’ve had to change my diet for health reasons and am really grateful to have found this recipe (and website) to help me along. The best part is my family enjoyed it, as well. We also made elote (corn), and I added the yogurt sauce (when we usually use mayo or sour cream) and tajin. Very good!5 stars

  127. My husband and I loved these tacos! If you don’t like spicy food I would recommend cutting back on the amount of chipotle powder, but we liked it along with some creamy avocado and the cool slaw. We added a couple of tablespoons of orange juice and some extra cilantro to the sauce/slaw dressing to amp up the freshness and tame the garlic (our clove was potent, haha). We will definitely be making these again and might just have to implement Taco Tuesdays in our house!5 stars

  128. We loved the cilantro sauce! The shrimp ended up being a bit too spicy for our tastes, so next time I’ll do 1/2 tsp of the chipotle powder instead of a full teaspoon as stated in the recipe. We felt the spiciness of the chipotle powder overtook the nice flavors of the cilantro, jalapeño, and lime in the sauce… we would like to be able to taste more of those flavors next time. Love trying all of your recipes, Erin! Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the April Cooking Challenge!4 stars

  129. These were fantastic! A very nice easy and fast dinner option. Loved the lime and cilantro mixture in the sauce. It really gave it a fresh kick. I did swap the jalapeno for some diced chilis since im a big wimp when it comes to spice. My husband loved them too. He ate five!5 stars

  130. This was a huge hit with my two kids and husband. I took the leftovers to work and everyone in the office was drooling. I make Erin’s recipes often and she is the only person I follow. The flavors are so awesome.5 stars

    1. Hi Amy! So glad you enjoyed the recipe! Thank you for this kind review! And thank you so much for following along! :)

  131. This were pretty easy and quick to make and my Fiance loved them! I thought they were flavorful but missing a little something (I used the full jalepeno and topped with avocado). I would still make again, next time I might just add some other toppings.4 stars

  132. Very good, although a bit too spicy for the slaw. Will leave out the jalapeño next time. I love shrimp! Perfect April challenge 😀4 stars

  133. These shrimp tacos are amazing! The shrimp, coleslaw, mango salsa, and avocado all go perfectly together! I added a little dried ghost pepper to the yogurt sauce because we like spicy – so good!!5 stars

    1. Hi Laurie! So glad you enjoyed the recipe! Thank you for this kind review and LOVE that you went with the ghost pepper! ;)

  134. These were excellent!! I made them for a small family gathering, and they were quickly devoured! The only change I nade to the recipe was to use a whole jalapeno in the dressing instead of a half. We like our Mexican food spicy! The only problem was when I started cooking the shrimp, everyone in the kitchen started coughing, presumably from the fumes from the ground chipotle chili pepper. We all got a laugh out of that. Anyway, I will definitely be adding this to my cooking rotation!5 stars

  135. Made this tonight and it was a hit with my husband, our 3 year old, and 1 year old! My daughter loved the sauce so much she ate it with a spoon. Loved how quick this was too- a great recipe for a working mom on a weeknight4 stars

  136. Delicious! I have made this recipe with shrimp as well as salmon and it is great. The taco seasoning is flavorful without being overpowering and the highlight is the sauce. Yum!5 stars

  137. I made this last night and my husband said it was the best shrimp he’d ever eaten! I will be cooking this again soon!5 stars
