These healthy breakfast smoothies are the best way to start your day!
If you’ve ever ventured to the smoothie section of my website, then you’ll know just how much I love healthy smoothies. They taste like a treat but have incredible nutritional value!
For me, the best breakfast smoothies hit three goals:
Filling so I’m not hungry by mid-morning.
Nutritious, with essentials like fiber and protein to power me through my day.
Delicious so I actually look forward to my healthy breakfast!
(And bonus points if they’re easy to make and prep ahead.)
The breakfast smoothies below fit all of these criteria. There’s something for everyone here, whether you’re looking for a green smoothie or a smoothie that looks and tastes like a milkshake!
What Do You Put in a Breakfast Smoothie?
There are so many options for what you can put in a breakfast smoothie. Each category of ingredients provides different positive benefits. Here are a few of my favorite ideas for what you should put in your morning smoothie:
Healthy Fats. Your favorite nut butter, coconut milk, or chia seeds. This makes the smoothie more satisfying and keeps you full between meals. Keep portions in mind; I usually add about 1 tablespoon.
Protein and Fiber Additions. Greek yogurt or your favorite protein powder are easy ways to make breakfast protein smoothies. A tablespoon of oatmeal adds fiber.
Fruit. Breakfast fruit smoothies are always a crowd-pleasing choice. Strawberries and blueberries are my go-tos. Bananas make smoothies naturally sweet. Mango and pineapple can hide the taste of greens. Unexpected fruits like apples or watermelon can be scrumptious too.
Vegetables. Spinach, kale, avocado, carrots, and even beets can all be added to smoothies.
Flavor Additions. Vanilla, cinnamon, honey, maple syrup, and dates are all excellent ways to give your smoothie more flavor.
Liquid. Unsweetened almond milk is my favorite for smoothies. You can also use juice (be sure to do this in moderation, since juice is high in sugar but low in fiber), a different kind of milk, coconut water, or even plain water.
How to Make Ahead and Store Smoothies
No time in the morning to whip up a smoothie? NO PROBLEM. You can make most smoothies the night before and store them in the refrigerator.
To Store. Store blended smoothies in the refrigerator for up to 1 day. Place the smoothie in an airtight jar; the less air touching the smoothie, the better. Stir before serving.
To Make Ahead. Prepare the smoothie as directed, then pour into an airtight freezer-safe mason jar and freeze for up to 3 months. Let thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.
Now, let’s get to those healthy breakfast smoothies!

Wonderful collection of breakfast smoothies Erin, the carrot cake one looks especially delicious! Just wanted to also share our healthy smoothie tool www.healthsomeness.com/smoothies which has a number of breakfast smoothies. Let me know what you think :)
Love all these varieties! That Hawaiian Berry version is like a piece of artwork – it’s beautiful! Here is my every day smoothie. Can’t wait to try some of yours! http://diy4you.me/smoothies-for-days/
Hi Erin! Love these, been making a few of these for years! Our go-to (because I always have ingredients, and it directly benefits several health concerns) is a blender packed with spinach (4 loose cups maybe?), 2 frozen bananas, generous sprinkle cinnamon, 1 tablespoon+ hemp hearts, vanilla whey protein powder or whole milk Indian yogurt (or tofu+ vanilla extract) to one’s desired proportion, then blend with enough water to loosen and add a few ice cubes if you like it thinner or colder.
It’s green but the banana&cinnamon kills the astringency of spinach and it’s just fresh and creamy. If you want it a touch sweeter, a drop of liquid stevia. Or manuka honey for its health benefits. Cheers to a new high power blender and good intentions!! Happy New Year!
Thank you for taking the time to share your favorite, Celeste! It sounds delicious! I’m so happy to hear that you have enjoyed some of these recipes as well!
Hi Genevieve, you can use either. The canned kind will produce a thicker, richer smoothie, and the carton kind will be thinner. The carton kind typically has less fat than canned. I hope this helps!
I’ve been making your smoothies 3-4 days of the week for a about 2 or 3 months now. I love the way you balance different flavors in your recipes. I’m curious because I noticed some smoothies in the picture just above that don’t have recipes, like one with pomegranate, a raspberry one, maybe a peanut butter cup one, and more? Are those your recipes as well?
Thank you for these awesome smoothie ideas. Bookmarked so I can come often to make them. Love the taste and makes my mornings that much more interesting and healthy. Using my new Vitamix blender for this and so far it has been a smooth and easy journey.
I new to smoothies it I like apple, baby spinach, Greek yogurt, peanut butter and unsweetened coconut milk and honey. Pretty good first a beginner also sometime I add heavy cream for thickness.
I have just found out about your smoothies so can not comment as yet, but will definitely make them Thank you Sandy South Africa. They look absolutely delicious.
I have not been one to eat breakfast for years. After my last physical I was told that I need to start eating breakfast. I tried but I just was having difficulties eating food first thing in the morning. Since I no problems drinking coffee or hot tea my co-worker suggested maybe a breakfast smoothie. I just wanted to thank you for all these recipes for smoothies. They are so delicious and fun to make. Thank You for the recipes! I now look forward to having breakfast.

Hello
When you mention coconut milk, do you mean the kind in the can which is often added to curries, or the long life milk kind which is thinner?
Many thanks
Hi Genevieve, you can use either. The canned kind will produce a thicker, richer smoothie, and the carton kind will be thinner. The carton kind typically has less fat than canned. I hope this helps!

I’m so happy that you’ve been enjoying them, Katherine! I think the one you’re referring to with pomegranates is actually my Beet Smoothie, the peanut butter cup one may be my Oatmeal Smoothie or Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino Smoothie. Each of the smoothies pictured in this post are linked in the lists underneath the photos. Hi Yash! Thanks! I do not have any recommendations, I would contact your doctor or a qualified nutritionist for those types of matters.
